Remember when politicians were oblivious to the depths of gaming culture? Those days are long gone.
Last October, Congress began investigating virtual worlds to determine how the in-game earnings of those who play might be taxable. Although not always officially sanctioned by the developers, players have been converting in-game currencies and goods to real life wealth since the early days of Ultima Online, with Second Life real estate mogul Anshe Chung claiming last year to have earned more
On the vicious streets of Sunnyvale, CA., Warcraft-gangs thumb-wrestle for control of the turf. Bloodthirsty knights (well, guys dressed like knights) pray for victory in battle. And pitiful wretches chain themselves to parking lots for 26 hours so they can buy a computer
New legislation has been proposed in Germany that would make it a crime to commit “cruel violence on humans or human-looking characters” in games.
The move comes in response to a school shooting in November: 18-year-old Sebastian Bosse wounded 37 people before taking his own life. The shooting has drawn comparisons to another in 2002 where a German student shot and killed 16 people. In both cases the perpetrator was a Counter-Strike

Three new Sims games have been announced today, ushering in a new form of life-sim gameplay focusing on plot progression. The Sims Life Stories, The Sims Pets Stories and The Sims Castaway Stories will bring a story-driven aspect to the series, with Life Stories arriving first and billed by developer EA as "a wonderful romantic comedy."
The trio are designed to be laptop-friendly, so you won't need to own any other versions - unlike the numerous add-on packs currently available. Life Stories
Announced last April to the delight of arcade racing fans 'round the world, Sega Rally Revo looks to deliver next-gen nastiness to a console (or PC!) near you sometime this year. Today Sega released some screens from this much-anticipated title, so get your first look at what's in store for you and your rally partner by hitting the Images tab above.
When we got a look at Revo at E3, we were awed by the way the tires literally tore through the track as we raced by. Each wheel threw up mud and
Let the haters and the old ladies complain about how those newfangled video computer games teach us to be killers; we've always taken the view that violent games are a pressure valve for blowing off steam in a harmless way. Don't believe it? Play something fierce and bloody the next time you're in a really bad mood, and then try telling us you didn't feel better afterward.
But why stop there? If games can keep you from climbing a clock tower and expressing your inner pain in the form of
Here are the first screens of the sinister Tiberium-hungry alien invaders from Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, the third faction in the upcoming sequel, and one that uses markedly different tactics to the existing GDI and Brotherhood of Nod armies. Click your way to the images by using the tab above.
As you can see from these alien-action shots, there's an insectoid flavor to the newcomers, ranging from foot soldier-level beetle things to the three-tentacled tripod in the top right corner
