I don't know what it is about monsters without proper faces that freaks me out so much. Maybe it's the inherent lack of identity; the loss of personality and identifiability. Maybe it's the way that faceless monsters are (presumably) cut off from the rest of the world, unable to sense it, communicate with it, or even be properly perceived by it.
Whatever the reason, Silent Hill and Pan's Labyrinth both creep me out in the most beautiful possible ways largely as a result, and now it looks like Naughty Dog's The Last of Us is going to do the same damn thing.
