EA has announced that the Need for Speed franchise has surpassed 100 million units sold life to date. The recent release of Need for Speed Shift pushed the franchise over the 100M mark, making it the best-selling racing brand in the gaming world. The franchise has generated over $2.7 billion in life-to-date sales.

Many years ago there was a video games crash in which any developers and publishers went bust almost every week. It was a slump for video gaming and the industry took years to recover. With the current economic crisis it has been speculated that we too would see a crash in the market, and it looks true.

The next Need for Speed game from EA will be titled Need for Speed Undercover, EA boss man John Riccitello has confirmed.

Little-to-no gameplay details were given when we contacted EA, but Riccitello did reveal during a recent speech that the game would feature a "very strong mission structure," and an embedded storyline, according to various reports.

Last week, Novint and Electronic Arts exclusively revealed to Newsweek's Level Up their agreement by which Novint will license several EA games, which Novint will then patch to support its Falcon peripheral. The titles which are being modified include Madden NFL 08, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08, Need For Speed ProStreet, Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142. Each of this titles has been previously released, but Novint CEO Tom Anderson hinted that the company might support EA's as-yet unannounced Need For Speed title for 2008. What surprised Newsweek somewhat is that Novint will charge players who already own these games $9.99 for a patch (Anderson's own words) in order to make the games Falcon-compatible.

Electronic Arts has released a second Need for Speed ProStreet demo, featuring all-Porsche content. The 571MB download includes the Porsche GT2 and GT3RS cars, and Porsche's Leipzig testing track.

EA is well aware its December Need For Speed ProStreet patch is irreparably corrupting PS3 and PC versions of the game. This doesn't mean a fix has been found, but the developer is narrowing the problem down and ambitiously predicts it will have something to say about it tomorrow. It frustrates us just as much that our great fans aren't able to have an enjoyable experience with ProStreet because of issues such as these, responded an EA moderator on the official forums.
