Mythos: The MMORPG we'd actually play

Diablo's creators cut the drudgery and bring accessible fun to the MMO.

Casual gaming and the MMORPG. Two concepts that can separately send a none-more-cold shudder of dread down the traditional gamer’s spine. Combining the two then, should logically create a most hideous gestahl beast of unimaginable combined wrong, as if Ray had chosen Celine Dion for Gozer’s form instead of Mr. Staypuft at the end of Ghostbusters. Rather, having had a look at Flagship Studio’s Mythos yesterday, we’ve got a feeling that the two pariahs of gaming could actually cancel each other out, creating something very smile-worthy indeed.

Mythos is designed to be a very accessible game. Its ease of use perhaps came about because it was originally created just to test out the networking tech for Flagship’s Hellgate: London. But having seen its potential as a full game, its creators have built it into something already very promising, even at this closed beta stage.

The overall philosophy on Mythos seems to be to create a fun, worthwhile MMO with the human factor at the forefront of consideration. Flagship intend it to be sympathetic to your lifestyle, not to hijack your every waking hour and force you to take the game on as your lifestyle. To that end it is being designed for quick and easy ‘jump in, jump out’ gameplay as and when the player feels like it, a life sentence of 24-hour grinding most certainly not part of the equation. Rejoice friends, as you may never need to poop in your socks again.
