Gamasutra: The Swedish developer Star Vault, veterans from DICEs Battlefield and Hitman crews, and the world's premier games broker have announced a global exclusive cooperation for the much thought of next generation sandbox MMO Mortal Online at this years gamescom.
Massively: Facebook integration isn't exactly a new thing for MMOs these days, but it's not often that you can use it to outright pay less money for a subscription. But that's what Mortal Online is experimenting with, offering players of the game a discount based upon their friend counts.
Mortal Online's been on the down-low ever since last year's launch, but that doesn't mean that the Star Vault devs were sipping piña coladas on a gore-soaked beach. On the contrary, as the team's been hard at work on a new expansion that was revealed in its full glory earlier this week: Mortal Online: Dawn.
Starting today, Thursday Feb. 24th 2011 Mortal Online offers a free trial for the game. Simply create an account and participate in the game for 14 days. No credit card information is required to set up the trial!
A patch released earlier this week added a new territory control system to the sandbox world of Mortal Online. Every zone is capable of being owned by a guild that owns a keep in the zone. House owners are allowed to vote once per week (counted on Sundays) as to which guild in their zone they wish to control it, via Voting Officers found near libraries. House votes are worth twice as much as a player vote, and grants a player a maximum of three votes per account.
Mortal Online is offering new players a chance to celebrate the summer, by offering a 20% discount on the purchase of the game.
Mortal Online is on track for their June 9th release date -- the dev team has further confirmed that by updating their site with a countdown timer and a list of goodies for enthusiastic fans.
Star Vault has announced a new launch date for Mortal Online: June 9th. Mortal Online, a sandbox style MMORPG, was originally scheduled to launch in March. At the beginning of April, Star Vault announced that they were delaying the official launch indefinitely. Since the early April announcement, Star Vault has been relatively quiet as to the status of MO.
