Speaking once again to Reuters, movie man Steven Spielberg has said that he shouldn't have sold Dreamworks Interactive to EA, allowing them to pick up the hit Medal of Honor franchise in the process. The smartest and dumbest thing I ever did was to sell my company to EA, the veteran entertainment boss conceded.
If you didn't know, today marks the tenth anniversary of the Medal of Honor series. To celebrate the occasion, EA is releasing the Medal of Honor: 10th Anniversary bundle. Packed in the box is every PC Medal of Honor game from the last ten years. (That's five for those of you who can't count.) Priced at $39.99, that means it's roughly $7.99 per game. The games (Medal of Honor Allied Assault, Medal of Honor Spearhead, Medal of Honor Breakthrough, Medal of Honor Pacific Assault Director's Edition, and Medal of Honor Airborne) combine for over 50 single player levels and more than two dozen multiplayer maps.
Electronic Arts has issued a new patch for Medal of Honor: Airborne, updating the World War 2 shooter to version 1.3. Despite the 1.05 GB download size this is an incremental patch; you'll need version 1.2 installed already. Patch 1.3 adds two new maps, two weapons, a new Objective Mode multiplayer mode, and fixes several more bugs. The retail multiplayer maps have also been updated to include the Objective Mode.
Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford has described Brothers in Arms competitor Medal of Honor as a franchise in trouble. It's a great franchise, and a lot of people love it, but I think somebody really needs to get hold of that franchise who cares about the subject matter and understands what the real promise and the fantasy is, Pitchford told CVG today at a press event in London. EA's Medal of Honor series blew gamers' socks off when Allied Assault launched on PC, but the series has never experienced the same accolade since.
