Max Payne

Microsoft is running a nice promotion on Rockstar Games, 75% off on most titles reducing the price down to most of the titles at $4 or less.

Two wrongs, they say, do not make a right. Sometimes however, it seems they can cancel each other out. Take, for instance, this video of a new Kinect hack from a chap named Demize2010. Using Kinect to control Max Payne, he strafes, runs, leaps in bullet-time, changes weapons and reloads, all utilising nothing more than leaning motions and (occacionally camp) hand gestures. Aiming and shooting? Those are achieved via a Wiimote. Sorry Microsoft, but we have been trying to tell you that "you are the controller" is not a complete solution.

But here you have it. Two of the hardcore's most derided things used in harmony to play one of the hardcore's most venerated games. Clicky on and you shall see.

Jason Evangelho writes: Fact: You are 1,000 times more likely to drown in the sea than you are to be bitten by a shark. Conclusion: Avoid the water entirely and drop some money on Steam's ludicrously low 1-day deals for June 27th. If you missed out on snagging Left For Dead 2 for $10.20 or Supreme Commander 2 at a paltry $7.47 yesterday, you still eight days left in Steam's Perils of Summer sale. Here's what's on offer until tomorrow (June 28th) at 1pm EST, some at a stunning 90% off.

Edge writes: After expressing bewilderment at specific inconsistencies between the Max Payne games and the recently-released movie adaptation, 3D Realms CEO Scott Miller, whose company produced the game series, has toned down his criticisms. To be clear, I'm proud of this film, Miller told Edge in a follow-up statement. Making films is much different than making games, because there's a lot more money involved, and a lot more people involved. What often happens is people get involved who do not fully understand the property and therefore try to take it in the wrong direction.

20th Century Fox said over the weekend that revenues from the new Mark Wahlberg-starring game-movie Max Payne hit $18 million in North America, topping the box office. Reviews have been roundly terrible, however. Even Scott Miller, CEO of 3D Realms, the producer behind the Max Payne games, found the flick straying significantly from its source material. There are several fundamental story flaws ... in the film that have me shaking my head in bewilderment, Miller told Edge
