Mass Effect 2

Mass Effect 2 scheduled for Early 2010

Confirmed for 360 and PC

As a special St. Patrick’s Day present EA and BioWare officially announced Mass Effect 2 today, with a release planned for Early 2010. You know that trailer you saw a couple weeks ago? Well that was just a teaser; now this sh*t is official. Here’s said teaser in case you missed it:

Although they haven’t said it won’t be on other, possibly Sony platforms, ME 2 has only been confirmed for 360 and PC. As for the release date, it’s a little curious. The first Mass Effect was a big seller and one of 360’s three major holiday 2007 releases, along with BioShock and Halo 3, yet the sequel is planned for post holiday time.

Above: A refresher from the first game

If we had to guess – and we do – there are probably two big factors in this choice. One has to do with the game’s publisher, EA, having a not so merry holiday season with their big titles, like Mirror’s Edge and Dead Space, not being the hits they could be in such a crowded season. Perhaps this is EA dev Glen Schofield’s statement about rethinking release dates in action.

The other possible reason that comes to mind is that BioWare is pretty damn busy right now. Aside from the gargantuan undertaking of creating the Old Republic MMO, they intend to finish and ship Dragon Age: Origins this fall. Even for a big studio like BioWare, shipping Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 in the same time frame would almost certainly hurt both titles.

Above: Remember when this happened in Mass Effect?

In spite of all this wild speculation on our parts, we can’t wait to get our hands on it in about a year from now. And if this winter of Street Fighters, GTA bikers, and Resident Evils has taught us anything, a triple-A title at this time of the year is never a bad thing.

Don't worry it will, just not yet.

They'll go on about how it's absolutley not coming to the PS3 rumors, yada yada yada.

It's coming, sooner or later.
And when it does.....I'm getting it, haha.

Hey, since we are showing previews for what is coming NEXT YEAR, maybe we could also do previews for games that come out THIS YEAR, like Infamous?

Also, while I liked the last game, I never finished, so I am glad that they only mentioned the Citadel, the Spectres, and the liberation of Eden Prime because I got stuck soon after I got the rights to search for the rogue by myself. (When did we liberate Eden Prime (which planet is Eden Prime?) again?)

I would trade Mass Effect 2 on the 360 for Killzone 2 anyday. PLEASE RELEASE KILLZONE 2 ON THE 360 PLEEEEAAAASSEE.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. If not, then I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Sony literally owns Killzone 2 and the developers of the game, Geurilla Games. So I'd say the odds of the game coming to 360 are none though I wish more people could enjoy it, it's pretty fantastic.

Mass Effect 2 on the other hand is in the hands of EA, though I still seriously doubt that a PS3 version would come. For people who don't have a decent PC or a 360 it would be nice, but I think Microsoft may pay for atleast timed exclusivity so it'd be a looooong time until PS3 only owners got a chance to play it.

On the other hand, with the current announcement of NG Sigma 2 for the PS3 a formerly Microsoft published 360 exclusive I could definately see EA announcing a port of ME 1 for PS3 and the eventual release of ME 2 ages after the 360 version.

With the possibility of Shepard being dead maybe they add the chance to play as an alien, I mean who wouldn't wanna be a Salerian Commando or some kickarse Krogan
