Madballs in Babo: Invasion

Keep an eye on this one

Based on the 1980s rubber ball toys (no, us neither), Madballs should be awful. But it’s brilliant. You play one of a few rolling eyeballs, equipped with a selection of weapons, shooting stuff in platformy 3D levels, gathering bonuses and giggling at the silly jokes.

As you progress you gain new eyeballs, new weapons for them to use (these are tantalisingly scattered around earlier arenas, unavailable to you yet), and tougher enemies to fight. The larger arenas lend themselves well to multiplayer levels.

A great sense of humour makes this simple, solidly made shooter a degree more special. At the cheap price, Madballs in Babo: Invasion is a surprising treat.

Strewth. I remember Madballs and actually owned one. Good use of a completely hollow license to be fair. Played the demo and rather enjoyed it.
