Eidos is viewing the success of its naval combat game Battlestations: Midway as reason to warrant a sequel, it's emerged. It was also reaffirmed in the report that a Just Cause sequel is in development.

Eidos was unavailable for comment on either sequel at the time of writing, however the producer on Battlestations: Midway, Klaude Thomas, did hint at potential content for a follow-up when we talked to him at the end of last year. It's likely that the sequel will be returning us to WWII, ...
The funny thing about inventing a genre of videogames is that, until it becomes completely played out, every game that emulates your formula is going to be attached to your name. Games that feature a wide-open, freely explorable world, for example, will have a hard time avoiding the label of "Grand Theft Auto clone," especially if their worlds are littered with vehicles to steal and drive.

In the six years since Grand Theft Auto III, a slew of games have tried to become "the next GTA," but so ...
The ground approaches rapidly, and you can see a highway winding through the wilderness, so you pull the cord and the parachute flares out. You float down into oncoming traffic, land on the roof of a car, then leap ...

Your world¿Your rules. In Just Cause, you are a field operative and specialist in regime change backed by a top secret agency, who will overthrow the corrupt government of San Esperito. The rogue South American state is suspected of stockpiling Weapons of Mass Destruction, and it's your mission to negate the threat this poses to world peace. It could be to your advantage that the tropical paradise is about to implode as various factions vie for power ¿ it just needs a gentle nudge in the right direction.

Just Cause offers the freedom to tackle your assignments however you want: playing the island's factions against one another, inciting a rebellion among the masses and building alliances with rebel forces and drug cartels. The action takes place in an incredibly detailed game world which consists of over 1.024sq kilometres of mountains, jungles, beaches, cities and villages. The island can be explored by land, sea and air, as you will have at your disposal one of the most varied and exciting array of vehicles ever seen in a video game.
Check out these 360 stills of a stealthy infiltration, Rodriguez-style.

As if gatecrashing a gentleman's club in the crater of a dormant volcano isn't high adventure enough, Just Cause will let you do it by throwing Rodriguez out of a perfectly good plane and paragliding in.
One game that has grabbed our attention firmly by the cojones is Just Cause from Swedish developer, Avalanche Studios. Not only does it look absolutely gorgeous but, by dropping the player into a huge, tropical hotbed of anarchic action, it promises an overload of riotous fun when it's released this fall.

After being mighty impressed during our latest hands-on with the game, we tracked down Avalanche's content director, Odd Ahlgren, and liberated some answers from him about Just Cause, big ...
You've got the unofficial backing of the United States and a big ol' tropical playground to blow apart.

And ironically enough, it's literally a hook that makes the game move. If you ...
