Flagship Studios boss Bill Roper is adamant the developer isn't ripping people off with the subscription-based access to Hellgate: London online multiplayer. "We wanted to have the best of both worlds: to give people the free experience they're expecting, because this is from the Diablo team, but at the same time to provide continuing content," Roper told PC Zone magazine before discussing exactly what players will get for their $9.99 a month. He continued, "We want to be able to stream ... » Read More

PC - Hellgate: London - Microsoft striving for simultaneous Vista, 360 releases Microsoft is hoping to see more titles released simultaneously on the Xbox 360 and Vista platforms, according to Rick Wickham, director for the Windows Gaming business.

Wickham indicated that a number of PC and Xbox 360 titles will launch at the same time this year, although he added that it was essentially a decision left to individual third-party publishers.

The initiative is just one of many designed to marry the two platforms, along with games that are playable across both formats and the adoption of Xbox Live features into PC gaming.

Achievement points, a key aspect of Xbox Live play, are also set to be incorporated into PC games and Windows Vista over the coming year.

Microsoft hopes to entice a majority of game developers to release titles under the Games for Windows branding, building a portfolio of titles. Games on show at the event included Crytek's Crysis, Funcom's Age of Conan, Flagship Studio's Hellgate: London and Gas Powered Games' Supreme Commander.

Hellgate: London, the apocalyptic capital-based RPG, could be heading to Xbox 360, according to comments attributed to US publisher Namco Bandai's director, Zach Karlsson. "It's highly unlikely that such a notion (bringing Hellgate: London to Xbox 360) is far from the company's planning calendar," Karlsson told industry website Next-Gen.biz. Or, in other words: It'd make a ton of cash, so why ... » Read More

This healthy dose of gameplay footage from Hellgate: London, the demon-hunting RPG set among the crumbling ruins of a hellish and apocalyptic capital, ought to bring you closer to that most important of player choices: are you a Cabalist, a Templar or a Hunter? The three factions announced so far offer very different forms of gameplay, much like with Hellgate's spiritual predecessor, Diablo. Cabalists are magic users, Hunters bring a more FPS-style approach to the beast-blasting while Templar ... » Read More

This new trailer for Hellgate: London, the futuristic demon-hunting romp and semi-successor to excellent ghoul-basher Diablo, has improved our day to no end. It's actiony, really well paced and makes the game look utterly thrilling. Hit the Movies tab above to see the footage. Our only concern is: can the game live up to this trailer? Hellgate's imaginative take on a demon-invaded London - all ruined streets and toppled cherry red phone boxes - is wonderfully immersive and has really captured ... » Read More

PC - Hellgate: London - Retail Radar: Gran Turismo HD, Hellgate pushed to late '07 Online retailer suggests that Polyphony Digital and Flagship Studios are taking their time with anticipated titles.

The list of developers known for their ability to produce hits has some overlap with the list of developers known for their ability to hold onto games as long as it takes until they're "done." Polyphony Digital and Blizzard Entertainment are two such companies; now it appears that the developers of Gran Turismo and a startup Flagship Studios (headed by veterans of Blizzard's Diablo franchise) could each be carrying on that tradition of tardiness.

Product listings on GameStop.com for Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo HD and Flagship's Hellgate: London both indicate that the games won't be shipping for another year.

PC - Hellgate: London - EA aids Hellgate publishing Encouraged presumably by the success of its collaboration on We Love Katamari (oh), Namco Bandai's come back to EA for help with publishing Flagship Studios' PC debut Hellgate: London in Europe and North America.

Meanwhile, Flagship has announced the game's third playable character class, the Hunter, with developer Bill Roper revealing that its introduction comes in response to requests for a class that emphasises player skill. "By removing auto-aiming and target-locking, the Hunter has been designed to provide a gameplay experience which will appeal directly to FPS players," he said.

Hellgate: London aims to combine the depth of role-playing games with the action of first-person shooters, and thanks to dynamically generated levels, items, enemies and events also aims to offer enormous scope for replay. The game's release date is currently unknown...

Fashionably early for All Hallow's - which makes up for the game being a little fashionably late to our PCs - here's a new selection of Hellgate: London screens. If there was a worry that the Diablo creators' jump to full 3D would mean the enemies wouldn't be packed on quite as thick as they used to, the crowds of flesh-hungry evil in these shots has put our minds at rest. In fact, the enemies are outnumbered only by the variety of guns and melee weapons you'll have to send them back to Hell ... » Read More

PC RPG Hellgate: London has been quietly brewing for two years now, but this new footage (on our Movies tab) of demons and zombies on the receiving end of some serious firepower (and sharp pointy things) shows that it's building up nicely.
