T3Fun has announced the continuation of Hellgate Globals 2012 kickoff with a plethora of events for February, celebrating the theme of love. Through a series of fun events, players who give to Hellgate Global will receive rewards back. With the most events to ever take place, February will be one of the most exciting months in Hellgate history.
In order to better understand what type of reception the resurrected game has received since its launch and what the development team has planned for its future, GameBanshee went straight to HanbitSoft project manager Namo Kang for a quick Q&A. And while there was a bit of a language barrier between them, Namo does let loose quite a bit of interesting information - including the fact that a Hellgate sequel is in active development.
T3Fun shocked us this evening when they revealed that an eternal and everlasting ticket subscription to access all of the Act 3, Act 4, Act 5, 2nd Attack, Stonehenge, and Abyss Chronicles content in the North American relaunch of Hellgate Global will only set us back $4.00.
Massively: No matter how bad the environmental conditions might be in Hellgate, that's no reason to eschew one of the time-honored traditions of MMOs everywhere: PvP. But the game's relaunch won't just be including the original PvP elements, and one of the newer additions has just been highlighted -- the Duel Areas. This new addition allows players to face off against one another on specially designed maps, complete with dynamic elements on each map to keep battles unique.
When Hellgate: London was first announced, we loved the premise of the action MMO and the story of its origin. Initially developed by Flagship Studios, production on Hellgate was led by a team of former Blizzard employees who had worked on Diablo. Set in a post-apocalyptic future that finds the world under siege by demons, the game sported an excellent class system with a great loot table that reminded us of those good old hack ‘n’ slash days in Diablo II. However, when the game finally released it seemed to lack the amount of content that we wanted to see from an MMO asking for a monthly subscription.
But that was then, and this is now. Hellgate is back again for a second strike as a free-to-play title. Bolstered with extra content from the Hellgate: Tokyo expansion, the second coming of the Diablo-esque action/MMO is ready to open its gates to a select number of players during its closed beta phase on June 3– and we’ve got a ton of keys to share with you. So grab a closed beta key and test drive it first and for free when the closed beta phase begins tomorrow…
Namco Bandai of Japan has sold the worldwide publishing rights for the Hellgate franchise to HanbitSoft, a major Korean developer of online games.
HanbitSoft has told IncGamers that it has not yet decided the pricing model Hellgate will have when it makes a return to the west, as announced yesterday. This opens up the possibility that gamers will see a free to play version, and maybe an option to subscribe as before.
Siliconera: Following the closure of Flagship Studios, Hellgate: London, the studio's dark fantasy-themed online RPG was shut down in February 2009, and the servers taken offline. Intellectual property rights to the game were then acquired from previous publisher Namco Bandai by HanbitSoft Inc., a Korean game publisher best known for their distribution of Blizzard's StarCraft in Korea.
GI.Biz writes: HanbitSoft has acquired the worldwide publishing rights to Flagship Studios' and Namco Bandai's cult RPG Hellgate: London and plans to bring the game back to Europe and the US this year. The servers for the game were closed down in the West in January last year, after developer Flagship Studios went bust. Legal issues had prevented the game from being published outside of Korea until now.
When everyone thought it was over, it's back. Flopped and shot in an early grave, Hellgate: London is being revamped and renamed Hellgate: Resurrection and put back on the shelves - at least in Asia. There are also rumours about an EU/US revival.
