PC - Guild Wars - "Disgruntled ArenaNet employee" blogger finally admits it was a hoax Massively: "If you're a long time fan of Guild Wars, or you're just finely-tuned into the realm of MMO news as any good Massively reader should be, you may remember some controversy that erupted last year regarding a blog that claimed to be written by a disgruntled former employee of ArenaNet. This blog supposedly outed ArenaNet for working with gold farmers in some elaborate scheme to make the company more money, undercut the dedicated player-base and massacre hundreds of thousands of small fluffy bunnies. Okay, we may have exaggerated a bit on that last one."

PC - Guild Wars - Guild Wars Dev Update - 10 September 2008 Yesterday's skill balance and update for Guild Wars brought with it some large changes for arguably overpowered skills, bug fixes and the addition of the newest Zaishen Reward tonic for September. Despite the creepy appearance of that new Macabre Tonic creature, the main topic on everyone's mind is the change to the Unyielding Aura Elite skill.

This skill had previously been the cornerstone for what's known as Ghost Running, where players could take advantage of what could best be described as an exploit. This also worked for many popular farming runs as well. With this new patch, Unyielding Aura now only works "within spell casting range", eliminating the way characters could rez from across the map. Of course many players don't like this fix, but as any veteran Guild Wars player knows, it doesn't take ArenaNet long to remedy unbalanced skills.

PC - Guild Wars - Kiddie Porn & Abuse Surrounding MMO Gold Selling Most MMO players know the story of IGE and Affinity Media by now, (the owners of WoWhead, Allakhazam, Thottbot and WoWinterface), and their relationship. A really interesting article popped up on Radar Online today which highlights some of the dodgy characters that are involved in the Affinity Media business which had claimed to have no involvement with IGE. Brock Pierce who is an advisor and a board member of Affinity Media, is highlighted in the above article and I have to say there's some pretty unsavoury stuff here pointing at child abuse. This has been brought up before regarding Brock Pierce who has apparently denied charges but there are filed legal cases which he has tried to settle.

In related news, there has been paperwork filed this week where IGE admits that it is Affinity Media (see additional link). Not that anyone doubted it. Next time you hit up an Affinity Media site, just think about who you are supporting and who's pockets your traffic is lining with cash.

PC - Guild Wars - School shooter played less violent Guild Wars, not Halo 3 A classmate of the 14-year Cleveland school shooter said that the gunman played the Teen-rated game Guild Wars and specifically did not play Halo 3.

Jack Thompson, take note: Guild Wars is a bloodless MMORPG. So, yes, Asa Coon did game. Yes, he did listen to Marilyn Manson music. He even wore a Manson t-shirt and black fingernail polish when he walked into school with his .38-calibre revolvers. But, there is no way that you can blame this on Halo or video game violence. Not this time.
