However, Destructoid has just recieved word from an internal source that the Guild Wars team will be proudly unveiling the character art for Guild Wars 2 later this week.
Going from dark horse to multi-million seller, Guild Wars has been the Cinderella story of the MMO world, battling against the heavyweights of WoW and EverQuest II for supremacy - and holding its own. Art director Daniel Dociu certainly has got a lot to do with this success. Weve cornered him to find out more about how the look and styles of Guild Wars, and the new expansion pack Eye of the North, came about. All the while wondering where weve seen that face ...

Most MMO players know the story of IGE and Affinity Media by now, (the owners of WoWhead, Allakhazam, Thottbot and WoWinterface), and their relationship. A really interesting article popped up on Radar Online today which highlights some of the dodgy characters that are involved in the Affinity Media business which had claimed to have no involvement with IGE. Brock Pierce who is an advisor and a board member of Affinity Media, is highlighted in the above article and I have to say there's some pretty unsavoury stuff here pointing at child abuse. This has been brought up before regarding Brock Pierce who has apparently denied charges but there are filed legal cases which he has tried to settle.

In related news, there has been paperwork filed this week where IGE admits that it is Affinity Media (see additional link). Not that anyone doubted it. Next time you hit up an Affinity Media site, just think about who you are supporting and who's pockets your traffic is lining with cash.
Its 100 years later in the world of Tyria, in the kingdoms of Ascalon and Kryta - the original Guild Wars: Prophecies setting. The same key tenets of gameplay remain in place, but much has changed alongside the ever more sparkly graphics; not least that everything seems… well… persistent. Up until the advent of the sequel, when you ventured outside a settlement there wasnt much chance of bumping into a friend.

No chance actually - you and your party would meet up, then fight ...
Guild Wars' heavily instanced-based nature and subscription-free model raised more than a few questioning eyebrows when the MMORPG was initially unveiled, but the game went on to prove itself and ArenaNet's design philosophy reap reward. Now the developer is expanding the Guild Wars horizon and is working on a sequel, and its foremost goal with Guild Wars 2, it says, is "to make it the ultimate Guild Wars for Guild Wars fans."

We spoke to ArenaNet founder Jeff Strain and Guild Wars lead ...
Guild Wars developer ArenaNet has explained it's not its intention to chase after World of Warcraft, or indeed other games in the genre, with its sequel Guild Wars 2.

Speaking to us in a recent interview, ArenaNet founder Jeff Strain described Guild Wars 2 as "a very different kind of game to World of Warcraft," saying that it's not the developer's goal to offer things above and beyond the Blizzard behemoth - rather, it's about delivering an experience unique in the MMOG space.

Details are sparse in regards to the franchises first true sequel, Guild Wars 2 - other than the fact that beefing up Eye of North avatars will carry over to GW2. But fans wont need to wait much longer, as PC Gamer ...

Information on Guild Wars 2 has appeared in the forums of website Guild Wars Guru, gleaned from the May issue of PC Gamer (US) which has extensive coverage on ArenaNet's MMOG series.

The lengthy post reveals considerable amounts, including the fact that ArenaNet is ditching the campaign format of Guild Wars for the sequel and that, as previously reported, a Guild Wars 2 beta is expected to begin in 2008.

It's mentioned the sequel will be set "Hundreds of years later, in Tyria", and that what are termed "radical" changes to be implement in GW2 include an "overhauled environment and character control system, redefined PvP play and retooled NPC companion system."
