Steams Midweek madness deal is Grid, sale ends Thursday at 4pm PDT, 7pm EST for those who can never figure out time.
The BAFTA Award-winning circuit and street racing game Race Driver GRID will be available for a one-time special offer of £2.99 ($4.99 / 4.49) from Steam later today, for a total of three days, with all profits from sales going to industry-supported charities and good causes, Codemasters announced today.
The semi-popular racing game, Race Driver: Grid had a loss of its PC, and PS3 multiplayer servers last week due to the game simply being rather aged. This limited those who still actively played the game to single player races and local multiplayer. There was a small revel of angry gamers, however without the crowd Grid had on it server months before and the releases of newer racing games like Dirt 3, there was very little chance Codemasters would do much about it. The Xbox 360 servers have not been discontinued.
Servers for Codemasters 2008 racer, GRID have been shut down, according to a report on MCV. The Xbox 360 servers will keep on running, but Codies have yanked the plug on PC and PS3 servers for the game.
Steam has slashed 75% off of several Codemasters' racing titles including GRID, FUEL, DiRT, DiRT 2 and ToCA Race Driver 3 along with a bundle containing all five titles as part of its weekend deal promotion.
Codemasters is to become the latest publisher to reward those who buy their games brand new with digital content not available to pre-owned buyers. This will begin with Race Driver: GRID Reloaded, due for release on Thursday, March 11th for PS3. The new SKU will include a copy of the original game plus codes to download the two DLC packs: 8-Ball and Prestige.
