PC - Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising - Star Trek Online Dev. Perpetual Sued by PR Firm, Charged with Breach of Contract, Fraud Public relations firm Kohnke Communications has filed charges against Star Trek Online developer Perpetual Entertainment, alleging the company of breach of contract, fraud, intentional interference with contract, and other similar charges. The charges stem from Perpetual's recent shift in ownership, in which most of its assets were transferred to another company and its Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising project was placed on indefinite hold.

Kohnke alleges that Perpetual owes it $10,675 in outstanding invoices, in addition to fees for its work promoting Gods & Heroes. Depending on the game's success after launch, Kohnke would be entitled to a minimum of $70,000 and a maximum of $280,000. The complaint alleges that Kohnke's work on promoting the game should entitle it to the maximum amount.

"Kohnke's public relations campaign was successful in creating pre-release 'buzz' around Gods & Heroes, and in convincing reviewers to write positive reviews about the game," the text reads. "Kohnke is also entitled to punitivie and/or exemplary damages due to P2, Keen and McKibbin's conduct, which was fraudulent, oppressive, and with malice."

PC - Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising - Report: Perpetual Entertainment Liquidating Assets In an SEC filing, Korean-based developer Gravity (g) disclosed that in October, it received a notice that U.S.-based online game developer Perpetual, in which Gravity invests, would be liquidating all of its assets.

The date on which Gravity stated the notice was sent, October 10th, is the same day that Perpetual announced that its PC MMORPG Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising would be put on hold indefinitely.

It is unclear whether this announcement also affects Star Trek Online, Perpetual's other MMO, which was still believed to be in development.

PC News from N4G | Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising
PC - Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising - Breaking News: Perpetual Acquired, Gods and Heroes Likely Canceled WarCry reports that Perpetual Entertainment has ceased operations. The company sold its game development platform and Star Trek Online to a major independent game developer, who will continue its operations in the same San Francisco studio under the same management. Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising does not appear to be part of the deal and thus appears to be canceled.

WarCry's source tells them that the majority of the Gods and Heroes development team has been let go as part of the move, which comes only a few weeks after they had downsized and pushed back the release date. The Star Trek Online team, those who worked on the Perpetual Platform (which was recently licensed to BioWare) and a small number of people from the Gods and Heroes team will be rehired into the reformed studio where development will continue on the two remaining projects.

Despite some compelling solo play - featuring multi-character parties - and a diverse collection of interesting architecture and landscapes, Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising is still a dungeon crawler at heart. And with lead designer - of Diablo and StarCraft fame - Stieg Hedlund steering the ship, it looks like Gods and Heroes' dungeons are heading in the right direction. We dove deep into one of the first group instances you'll encounter, the Volcanic Vents with Hedlund, and his co-worker at ... » Read More

PC News | Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising
Sometimes we miss the gods of old. With scandals aplenty, reading up on Greek and Roman mythology feels like flipping through the ancient equivalent of those titillating, yet trashy, rags near the cash register at the supermarket. "Cephalus kills wife by accident." "Tereus tricked into eating own son." The headlines scream out with tragedy soaked in bloody betrayal and irony. They sure knew how to weave a good tale, but gaming's fascination with toga-clad history and legends are nothing new. ... » Read More

For those who prefer soloing to forming large parties with strangers, MMOs can be a lonely experience at times. What's a healer with no one to heal? What's a warrior with no cloth covered casters to defend? By throwing situations that require multiple players to cooperate and combine their individual niche strengths, successful MMOs have been able to funnel players together, encouraging socializing, guild building, and the sense of community that makes enveloping oneself in an MMO such a ... » Read More

Sometimes you need to know where you're going before you can decide where to begin. The choices you make during your first few minutes with Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising's character creation system have some long-lasting implications on what Feats and God Powers you'll have at your disposal as you near the game's current level cap of 40. Pick a heal-centric Priest, and you might find yourself pining for a Nomad that can heal and score some stabby damage later on. The god you choose to align ... » Read More

There's so much that a new MMORPG has to prove in the game's starting area. Besides establishing the plot, setting, and introducing your role in its massively multiplayer world, the starting zone is your first impression of the game, and sets a strong precedent for everything that will follow. That being said, there were no idyllic fields of level one butterflies to kill for butterfly wings - of which you need ten - so the buttercup fairy can make you a butterfly potion that gives you plus ... » Read More

PC - Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising - What SOE is showing at E3 PSN@Home has decided to go on a journey. One that will take us quite a bit of work, one where we may have to "bribe" some companies! Although luckily we have spoken with a Rep for Sony Online Entertainment and they made it very easy for us to know what is going on with them at E3 this year.

PC - Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising - Gods And Heroes: Rome Rising Hands-On Impressions While it's never faded into obscurity the way some other ancient civilizations have, it seems Roman history is enjoying an especially popular revival these days. From the HBO series to games such as God of War, it seems as though creative types are more than happy to mine the culture of that era for inspiration. Now you can add Perpetual Entertainment's Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising to the list.

Chris McKibbin, the company's co-founder and president, and Stieg Hedlund, lead designer, are keenly aware of just how much they have to work with. "There's almost too much," Hedlund said during a recent demonstration of the game, referring to the vast amount of mythology he has to work with in the game.
