Gears of War
The success surrounding the popular Xbox 360/PC shooter Gears of War has led to the creation of a comic book based on the game's universe. It's officially been confirmed that DC Comics partnered with Epic Games to publish a Gears of War comic book series, which is "slated to debut from DC's WildStorm publishing imprint in October." More details will be uncovered soon.
As for the second installment in the shooter series -- a.k.a. Gears of War 2 -- Epic revealed that they won't be releasing a demo before the full game hits stores.
"[There are] no plans for a demo," associate producer Tanya Jessen told Shacknews. "The reason being that it's been such a fast turnaround. A two year production cycle, for a game of this caliber, is really short."
In relation to game-inspired comics, the well-known publisher DC Comics also recently revealed that its going to making a comic book series based on the upcoming game Prototype.

Several months ago FiringSquad reported that comic book publisher Boom Studios announced plans to release a monthly comic book based on Epic Games's Xbox 360 action game Gears of War. Boom Comics solicited a #0 issue of the comic in Previews magazine for release back in October 2007 but that comic never got released.
At WonderCon on Friday FiringSquad asked reps for Boom Comics what happened and FiringSquad got confirmation from them that their plans for an official Gears of War comic have now been cancelled. The company reps were vague on what exactly happened, saying, "We will let Epic do what they do best and we will do what we do best."

Microsoft has snapped up Kudo Tsunoda from the ashes of EA Chicago, the studio responsible for Fight Night Round 3 and Def Jam Icon that EA shut down in November last year.
The colourful and charismatic Kudo Tsunoda was the lead producer on both of those games and was working on the sequel to Marvel: Rise Of The Imperfects when EA closed the studio down. Following the closure, which EA promised wasn't because Def Jam Icon brought Sean Paul to the 360, Tsunoda has now joined Microsoft's Xbox division as the title of General Manager.
The confusing part is Kudo Tsunoda is project lead on "an upcoming Gears Of War title", which throws itself open to all sorts of interpretations - where does this leave Cliffy B and Epic? Will Tsunoda just have an advisory role? Does this mean another Gears Of War title besides the expected sequel? Will Sean Paul be in it? So many questions, so few answers. Hopefully, the upcoming Games Developer Conference will give the answers...

War is not a game, but apparently it makes for good playthings. NECA today announced that it is making a line of action figures based on Epic Games' Xbox 360 shooter Gears of War.
Set to debut in late spring, the first wave of the series will feature three figures: Marcus Fenix, Augustus Cole, and a Locust drone. NECA has not fully detailed future plans for the Gears of War line of figures, but did say this was only the first collection in an ongoing series.

The first details have been spotted on the official Gears of War prequel, which is unfortunately (for Gears fans, who are surely not big readers) in book form.
Gears of War: The Pendulum Wars - The Battle of Aspho Fields (we were hoping for a longer title) is being penned by former games journo Steven Kent of Next Generation and USA Today fame.

With Gears of War launching on PC today , Eurogamer thought it would be a good idea to ask Mark Rein for the umpteenth time whether the five new chapters are ever going to come out on Xbox 360.
Asked if Epic is categorically never going to release them as downloads for Xbox 360 users, Rein said, "It looks that way."
Never? "Well, never say never, but I mean there's no plans to do it."

You're probably anxious to play Gears of War PC, but Gamescore Blog wanted to let you know of a small problem (fortunately, with an easy fix). When you first play Gears of War for Windows, an automatic update to Games for Windows -- LIVE will be downloaded. But after the update is downloaded, you're put back to the main menu of the game. If you don't shut down the game, the update won't complete. There's two ways to get over this bump. The easiest is to simply shut down the game after the update is downloaded (you'll know it's safe because you'll be back at the main menu, and not on the "Don't shut down your PC while the update is being downloaded" screen). As soon as you close the game, the update will install automatically and you're good to go. The second option is to manually install the latest Games for Windows -- LIVE update.» Read More

"We are not sure exactly what turning on DX10 does, but we do know it causes a large performance drop on every video card." "In our testing we found absolutely no image quality differences by turning this to "On."" The only benefit was being able to use "On/Antialiasing" for 4X AA, but you need a very fast video card to use that setting. If you have a GeForce 8800 GTX/Ultra level video card you can enjoy that setting. But on the GeForce 8800 GT/GTS and Radeon HD 2900 XT you will have to sacrifice other in-game options or resolutions in order to use 4X AA. It is rather a shame because we noticed that 4X AA does improve the visual quality of this game in a noticeable way."» Read More

Speaking to XLeague.TV back at Games Convention 2007, Mike Capps revealed that he was so unhappy with the multiplayer element of Gears of War that it was very close to being pulled from the game.
"I was going to cut multiplayer from Gears because I thought it wasn't coming together fast enough, right," said Capps. "The day before E3 I'm like 'no guys, it's not pulling together'. And they made it, they pulled it together, and then we won every award."

Microsoft Game Studios announced today that the eagerly-awaited "Gears of War" for Windows has gone gold and will hit retailers throughout North America on November 6th.
In addition to retaining all of the content from its Xbox 360 counterpart and all previously released downloadable content (seven multiplayer maps and the Annex game mode), "Gears of War" for Windows will feature exciting original content, all-new Achievements to unlock, and ultra-high resolution visuals. Five new campaign chapters expand upon the riveting story (including an epic battle with the fearsome Brumak), and the action-packed multiplayer offering is bolstered with three exclusive multiplayer maps, a "King of the Hill" game type, and Games for Windows ¿ LIVE support to deliver online matchmaking for Gold members. The game features 50 achievements totaling 1000 points. Most of the achievements are the same as the 360 counter-part, with the clever addition of the "Not So Serious" achievement that calls for 10,000 kills in Player matches, rather than Ranked matches. The "Seriously..." achievement for killing 10,000 in Ranked matches is still present, forcing players to now have 20,000 kills total, unless the achievements stack together if you get them in Ranked matches first.
There is also one secret achievement, which is most likely for killing the new boss character (the Brumak), presumably on Hardcore (or higher) difficulty like the other boss achievements.
