Essentially a mod of Hearts of Iron II developed by part of the fan community at Paradox, this grand strategy game boasts some major tweaks to enemy AI and tons of new content, not to mention some added polish.

It’s achingly slow throughout: matches can take more than 40 minutes, and it’s not until halfway through that you get to massacre things with murderblooms and the AI gets aggressive enough to require constant action on your part. When it does, though, Eufloria is a tough, intelligent and genuinely exciting strategy game.

Ultimately, East India Company feels bare. The bones of ship combat and trading are solid, but at present, unspectacular. With a bit of work from a dedicated community, the game could coalesce into a historical favorite, but it won’t currently wow salty sea dogs.

All in all, it’s hard to recommend Officers with the likes of Company of Heroes and Men of War available, both of which offer superior gameplay, tactics and strategy.

Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge

With poor English translations, an insanely hard difficulty level, and a bland story, Jagged Edge falls short of anything interesting to play. Although we'd like to love this type of game, there isn't much to recommend here.
