Joe Danger

The debut game from UK indie Hello Games, Joe Danger has a cracking pedigree taking in the likes of Burnout, Black, Virtua Tennis and Geometry Wars Galaxies. Superficially a 2D stunt racer, it's actually a gleefully clever racing/platformer/puzzler/sandbox hybrid and so far, we've had a hoot with it.

As a game, The Void demonstrates that the PC is the most exciting gaming platform. Independent in development, game mechanics and spirit, this creative adventure title simply wouldn’t work anywhere else.

It’s achingly slow throughout: matches can take more than 40 minutes, and it’s not until halfway through that you get to massacre things with murderblooms and the AI gets aggressive enough to require constant action on your part. When it does, though, Eufloria is a tough, intelligent and genuinely exciting strategy game.

This is essentially a very promising tech demo, and you can’t help feeling that some publisher will snap it up, and in a couple of years we’ll see a more polished version of the game. Better to wait until then.

FIFA Manager 10

There’s a great streamlined multiplayer mode to play, although the single-player mode is let down by random press questions, a limited transfer system, too much financial dealing and simplistic tactics.

Football Manager 2010

The hugely agreeable database remains while the customising options are second to none. It’s a good result for Football Manager – Champ Man needs to equalise once more.
