Citing the lack of profitibilty but retaining an optimism for a possible future in some shape, for the moment it is time to lay down your weapons.

Fury Goes Completely Free With Dec 14 Content Update, Bad News Follows (News)

Come the Age of the Chosen update on December 14, players of Auran's hack'n'slash MMO Fury will be given the option to play the game minus the monthly subscription fee.

According to the release, the free mode, called "Chosen", will give players access to all game types, weapons and abilities. Chosen however will gain gold and essence at a reduced rate and will be unable to swap goods with other players.

This news however is foreshadowed by this grim statement from Auran CEO Tony Hilliam, included with the release Kotaku Australia received from the company: "We will then have some bad news to follow (unless a miracle occurs), but there will be a very positive end to the week."

Over the last couple of days reports have been circulating the Internet that the Brisbane, Australia-based developer Auran is laying off a significant proportion of its staff, largely Â¿ it was suggested - due to financial difficulties that have arisen as a result of the recently released PVP MMO Fury performing poorly at retail. Staff were also allegedly told that further development may be outsourced to China.

After hearing the reports IGN got in touch with staff at Auran in search of clarification and an official statement. Tony Hilliam, the CEO of Auran Games, was kind enough to oblige, and yes, it turns out there's a fair bit of truth in the rumours.

The Game Developers Association of Australia announced its 2007 Industry Award winners at the conclusion of its Game Connect: Asia Pacific 2007 Conference and Expo, at an annual dinner that convened 200 GDAA members, industry guests and government representatives to hear the news.

The categories were largely swept by Infinite Interactive's Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords, which earned Best Game, Best Console Title, Best PC Title, Best Handheld Title and Best Gameplay.

Auran studios is giving you the opportunity to play their game for free for the next ten days. You can download the free trial of the game at their site. There have also been some big improvements to the game since the beta.

Auran also passed along some images of Siobhan Parekh, an FHM girl next door model who was modeled into the game.

August 14, 2007 - Today Gamecock announced its first two games will both be released this October. The player-versus-player (PvP) massively-multiplayer online (MMO) game Fury will begin October 9 on PC, while the first-person survival horror game Dementium: The Ward will be let loose on the DS, appropriately, October 31.

Fury was developed by Australian studio Auran, which is also handling the videogame adaptation of Battlestar Galactica. Dementium: The Ward is the first project from Renegade Kid.

"It's been a blast getting Gamecock off the ground, but it's even more exciting to have our first two games coming out this October," said Mike Wilson, Grand Champeen of Gamecock. "These games showcase what developers -- given the freedom to create -- can accomplish. Both Auran and Renegade Kid are visionaries, and have stayed true to creating games that are fresh and that keep your adrenaline pumping."
