SCRAWL: "We've got brand new artwork depicting two new classes in Square Enix's upcoming PlayStation 3 MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV. The sword-wielding Gladiator and fist-fighting Pugilist have been revealed, as well as an assortment of weapons that can be equipped to each. There are swords and brass knuckles, shields and claws."

The hours are ticking down until doors open at the Micromania game show in France. Square Enix has opened an additional site about the event on their European homepage. It includes a message saying that people will be able to register for information regarding beta testing for FFXIV. This is similar to what they offered at Tokyo Game Show, encouraging people to sign up online for the newsletter to receive additional information when it comes available.

PS3 fans who want to beta test the newest online Final Fantasy epic may want to think about upgrading their PCs as Square Enix representatives have told Japanese publication GameWatch that Final Fantasy XIV beta testing will initially only be carried out on the Windows platform.

In the same articles information was revealed about how the beta testing will be conducted. To begin with, the beta will not be continuous, only lasting for a couple of hours at a time so the development team can directly monitor the goings on and will be conducted with a relatively small group of people from all over the world.

As the game is tightened up and nears release a full 24-hour beta will begin on the PC, finally ending with a full, free open beta session.

It was also revealed that this game is being designed for PCs and ported to consoles - the opposite of PS2-developed FF11. The game is being built with Direct X9 in mind.

Today Square Enix announced that the website for their PC/PS3 MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV. It's not just a lame teaser site with a shiny logo, either.

The website contains information on the game world's storyline, locations, and races. There's also a brief overview of the game's mechanics, such as the different "disciplines" (sets of skills) a player can specialize in. Should all this text start to bore you, there's a trailer and screenshots as well.

There has been a plethora of new information about Final Fantasy XIV recently, and it doesn't look like it's going to stop any time soon.

The newest piece of information to surface about Final Fantasy XIV revolves around its side-quests, as it looks like there is going to be a new card game present. Final Fantasy XI was accompanied by Tetra Master, of Final Fantasy IX fame, but it was at additional cost.

Square Enix have revealed some more information about the Job system that will power player progression in Final Fantasy XIV Online.

Square Enix has finally put some names to the images by announcing the new titles of some of the races in Final Fantasy XIV.

SCRAWL: "The September 2009 edition of Famitsu Wave has released in Japan sporting a DVD containing an eight-minute segment on Final Fantasy XIV. A lot of new information has come out of the DVD and we've got it for you.

Eorza is the name of a region that's the main setting of the game and as a full world, Vana'diel (from Final Fantasy XI) is naturally a little bigger. The actual world the game takes place in is called Haiderin. The style of Haiderin will be different from Vana'diel, aiming for a "high-fantasy" style setting. They want the setting to be more modern in comparison to Final Fantasy XI's more middle-age setting. There will be advanced technology in the world, as you've clearly seen from the skyships in the trailer."

While Square Enix's initial FFXIV press release listed series veteran Nobuo Uematsu as the title's composer, many on the floor believed this to mean that he would be contributing a few themes to the game, similar to what was done for Final Fantasy X and XI. However, a member of the FFXIV confirmed that at this time, Uematsu is set to write the entire soundtrack. While he's not back under the Square Enix roof, this is the first time he'll score a FF soundtrack single-handedly since FFIX.
