GI.biz writes: "Electronic Arts has released FIFA 09 statistics, revealing that around 1.25 million games are played online every day.
The number of games played daily represents a 321 per cent increase over the the previous title in the series, and makes FIFA 09 the most popular EA Sports game online.
In total, over 141 million games of FIFA 09 have been played on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 since the game's European launch last September. "

EA's FIFA 09 has become UK's all-format Christmas number one following an eleventh-hour sales surge at the retailers. The highly successful sports title, which has hovered around the top half of the charts since its October release, snatched the accolade from the bookies' odds-on favorite Call Of Duty: World At War.
Treyarch's war shooter had held number one in the charts for nearly a record-breaking six successive weeks, yet promotion at the retailers saw sales in FIFA 09 mushroom 89% overnight, sending World At War to second spot.

FIFA 09 has received its second patch, which will not harm old save files. Along with various gameplay bugs, the tweaks include:
Live Ticker: Referee pictures are displayed (user generated content); Number of assists is displayed after a goal (league matches);Team Status is displayed
3D Match: 3D match improvements (Version 3); 3D camera improvements (TV and free camera)
Database: Improved database (12.12.08)
Other features
- Notepad added
- Instant Calculation mode now shows the last 5 events
- New training camp features (more camps, improved calculation of the effects, option to add your own training camps)
- Player character icons now displayed on the player info screen
- Several smaller improvements (e.g. youth player scouting, night matches in generic stadiums)

PS3 and X360 fifa sales were neck and neck in last week's UK charts. The wii version howver flopped in sales.
Charttrack reports:-
"42% of sales were on Xbox 360, making it the 3rd fastest selling game on Microsoft's format (behind GTA IV and Halo 3), while 40% of sales were on PS3 where it is the 2nd fastest selling game (behind GTA IV). The PS2 version accounted for 11% of sales and PSP 3%, while Nintendo's formats and PC made up the remainder. "
