Not because FIFA 08 is awful - it plays perfectly acceptable, often enjoyable, albeit somewhat deliberate soccer, and the host of features gives you plenty to explore if you can find an AI level that you're happy with.
No, it's that FIFA 08 feels tired. Tired of having ever-more new features layered on top of it. Tired of the new moves added to new buttons designed to counter the dour AI, itself designed to counter the old, breezy pick-up-and-play style that everyone criticized as simplistic. Everyone? Maybe even us. Hey, perhaps EA does listen after all. There could be hope yet. For FIFA 09, of course.
