Ubisoft has today issued an updated released schedule, revealing Far Cry 2 is set for release on PC in February 2008. Clint Hocking: "To cut straight to the heart of it, Bioshock seems to suffer from a powerful dissonance between what it is about as a game, and what it is about as a story. By throwing the narrative and ludic elements of the work into opposition, the game seems to openly mock the player for having believed in the fiction of the game at all. The leveraging of the game's narrative structure against its ludic structure all but destroys the player's ability to feel connected to either, forcing the player to either abandon the game in protest (which I almost did) or simply accept that the game cannot be enjoyed as both a game and a story, and to then finish it for the mere sake of finishing it".
They inform Joysiq that there will be no visual or audio recording during the FarCry 2 demo. Developer Clint Hocking is on the stage, having flown to Seattle from Leipzig for this one, single demo. They've reserved the first two rows for press, eager to ensure their forfeiture of sleep doesn't go unrewarded. The screen is showing a Windows desktop with a big, shiny FarCry 2 logo. Carolyn Carnes opens up, reminding us there is no recording equipment (OR ELSE!), asking us to turn our cellphones off, reminding us this is a pre-alpha (read: if something goes wrong, it's early!) and of course, they won't be able to answer everything during the Q&A session.
GameSpot found a listing for an Xbox 360 edition of Ubisoft's upcoming PC game Far Cry 2. The original Far Cry was a hit for the publisher upon its release for 2004, and the first-person shooter quickly made its way to consoles. However, much like the game's menagerie of mutated mercenaries, the game had been changed along the way. The Xbox played host to Far Cry Instincts and Far Cry Instincts Evolution, while the franchise burst into the new generation of hardware with Far Cry Instincts Predator on the Xbox 360 and Far Cry Vengeance for the Wii. While the GameFly listing offers no description of the game, the fact that the title has remained unchanged suggests that the online rental service expects the Xbox 360 game to be fundamentally the same game as the PC edition.
Far Cry 2's action takes place in two large fully open worlds, and features a non-linear, dynamic storyline that uses "a simple drama management engine to populate the story with key characters and facilitate the convergence of the story toward major climatic events", the sequel's producer Louis-Pierre Pharand has explained.
