Far Cry 2

Let’s hear it for the humble in-game map, the stoic orientation-enabler of our favourite medium for decades. But not all maps are created equal. In fact some maps are so amazing that they’re amongst the very best parts of their respective games.

No seriously. And even in good games.

Tsk. Bugs, eh. In games. Nothing worse. They're not meant to be there. But sometimes they are and that's where they stay until Mr Developer stops fiddling with his massive beard and decides to do something about it. And he always does something about it because he knows otherwise gamers will just refuse to play his broken piece of programming ever again. Because unlike developers, gamers actually have standards. Although that's not actually true. Because sometimes we'll happily play a game - even love a game - that has more bugs than an 80s rap jam.

Like what games exactly? Like these games exactly. The Top 7... horrendously buggy games we loved anyway.

There are ways to die in a game and there are ways to die. Being horrendously, but heroically squashed under a size 400 foot as we single-handedly fight a giant robot with nuclear weapons. Now that’s a respectable way to embrace gaming death. Having our hero get done in by birds, spiders or a bad case of the cold (like in the following collection of games)? Yeah, not so much. So join us as we doff our gaming hats and monocles to

Generally, the first rule when it comes to rescuing hostages is ‘don’t let everybody get horribly done in.’ But sadly, this proves too much of a stumbling block for many game heroes. Be it accidentally killing geriatrics with a killer virus or letting the damsel in distress get crushed by a cow, the following rescue missions all get botched. Spectacularly.

You get three new weapons, two new vehicles and five new multiplayer maps in Fortune’s Pack. The best news is that Far Cry 2’s famously explodey action sequences are now augmented by an explosive-launching crossbow that packs more of a punch than the in-game rocket launcher.

On October 14, 2008 Far Cry 2 went gold - meaning the game was fully completed and sent to printers. One week later on October 21, 2008 Far Cry 2 was released in North America by Ubisoft. With an average Metacritic score of 85 - across the 360, PS3 and PC platforms - Far Cry 2 has received praise for emergent gameplay in an open world African setting.

Right, Darth Vader is Luke’s father, Bruce Willis is dead in the Sixth Sense, Brad Pitt and Edward Norton are the same person in Fight Club. There, we’ve just ruined three movies for you. We’re fairly sure you won’t care about us ruining these plot twists by the end of this article, though, as we’re about to spill the beans on 80 (some potentially game-ruining) spoilers.

Just a few weeks ago we celebrated the very best of 2008 with our Platinum Chalice Awards.Today though, we must temper our merriment with disdain and head-sagging shame, for these are the moments that truly made our stomachs turn.
