Allied Mission 3: Many Meetings

To this point, John Lynch has been operating on his own. Now he’s going to get a little help in the unlikely personage of Anna Herzog, a British undercover agent who’s as beautiful as she is cunning. Anna will guide Lynch to a member of the Marquis, the French Resistance movement, who’ll help them rescue German General Wolfgang Hardt from an appointment with the hangman’s noose. Realizing the German Chancellor is a megalomaniacal tyrant, Hardt has assumed the leadership of the German Resistance —  and the Nazis want him dead for it.

Primary Objectives

  • Get Lynch and Anna to Illange as Soon as Possible
  • Have Lynch Change the RR Switch
  • Free General Hardt From the Train
  • Destroy the Nazi Military Base to the East

Secondary Objectives

  • Blow up the Ammo Dump
  • Disable or Capture the Nazi Tank Factory Near Metz

Secret Objectives

  • Reach Illange Without Being Detected by the German Outposts

Key Tactics and Battle Tips

  • Avoid detection on the way to Illange
  • Take an Engineer with you to Illange
  • Be sure to flip RR Switch in time
  • Prepare strong defensive line east of your primary base
  • Capture a  German Tank Factory to make enemy units for your own use
  • Select Core Units before the battle ends

Map Legend

  1. Build the Pontoon Bridge and cross the river with Core Units and an Engineer
  2. Place the Bridging Unit on the Drop Zone
  3. Erect Pillboxes and AT Turrets, reinforce with armor units, and deploy Bofors; link up with secondary force if necessary
  4. Meet Sagnier and use Engineer to start a secondary base
  5. Send Lynch here to the railroad switch
  6. Destroy bunkers and German vehicles guarding base perimeter
  7. Destroy or capture the German base
  8. Destroy or capture the Tank Factory
  9. Destroy the Ammo Depot and other buildings
  10. Erect AT Turrets to block Nazi reinforcements
  11. Destroy German bases around train station and rescue Hardt

At the start point, have the Supply Stash produce two extra Studebakers. Use Engineers to build a Weapons Factory (enabling construction of Anti-Tank turrets), a Radar Station (to remove some of the Fog of War from the Mini-Map), and Barracks (be sure to train the troops to Capture Buildings!). As Resources become more abundant, erect Pillboxes or AT Turrets to protect your base from probing enemy attacks soon to come from the east and northeast. You’ll also want to produce four or five Bofors to protect your base from German bombers, and create two or three Airports as well. Note that this is the first mission in which you’ll be able to upgrade your base to Tech Level 2, allowing you access to new types of units: the Radar Station is required for this upgrade.

Meanwhile, build a pontoon bridge and head south with Anna, Lynch, and any Core Units, trying to stay mid-way between the railroad depot  to the west and the river to the right. While detection won’t foil your mission, it will keep you from achieving a Secret Objective. Take an Engineer with you: there’s a Mine in Illange you can use to establish a secondary base. In the meantime, send the Bailey Bridging Unit to the Drop Zone to the west to pick up much-need Resources.

When Anna and Lynch arrive in Illange, it turns out that the Maquisard who’s going to help them is none other than Vincent Sagnier, and old friend of Lynch’s. After they meet Sagnier, a five-minute timer begins ticking. Send Lynch in a tank to the switch at the railroad tracks before the timer runs out, and the train carrying Hardt will be diverted to the railroad depot. There’s no need to rush now: Hardt’s train can’t go anywhere, and you can use this time to take care of other objectives. Take this opportunity to upgrade your base to Tech Level 2 if you haven’t already done so, and be ready for an attack on it from the Nazi base directly to the east.
