Wanted: Glutton for punishment

Leading a guild is a full-time job. Check out a day in the life of WoW's unsung heroes

Words: Sarah Joynt-Borger, GamesRadar US

At work we secretly log on to our guild forums. We check sign-ups and warlock/priest thread. It's up to seven pages now! We open Excel so it looks like we're working on something work-like, and make a list of who signed up so invites tonight aren't chaos. Sign-ups are still low, and we take a moment to wish we'd rolled a warrior instead of a rogue. After saving the spreadsheet, we email it to home email, and quickly close forums before boss walks by.

Above: Excel sheets and lots of post-its help provide the illusion of productivity

The clock is ticking. After work we break many traffic laws in order to get home so we can log on in time. Another 30 minutes are spent responding to tells. "Seven server. Well, it's six server now, so in an hour. No, we're not going to do Black Morass."

There are 30 minutes till the raid starts, and no tanks are online. Not good. We start searching through our friends list for the odd tank that didn't go into Kara with their guild. We start the raid, and begin nagging people to stop farming in Nagrand or PvP'ing and head to Kara. Didn't these people want to raid tonight?

More tells bombard us. "Yes, we know we don't have a tank. Yes, we're looking. Yes, we should have rolled a warrior. Thanks."
