The one that's quite like Advance Wars

Weewar is actually very like Advance Wars, but with hex-based movement not squares. Which is all the difference in the world, you know. Still, we can't argue too much with a cutesy colourful turn-based war game that lets four players face off over the internet in mini-warzones.

It's not for impatient gamers, though. Unless you team up with active members (or players you know) then you'll find most games can last for weeks, with you playing just a single turn a day. Even so, it's baby simple to start a new game, so you're never too far from WeeWar's charming little battles.

The one that's the best tower defence game ever

Desktop Tower Defense. It's a name that strikes fear into the hearts of many an addict. You'll probably have heard of the tower defence style of gaming - from its Warcraft-based beginnings to the Flash-built mini games today. But Desktop Tower Defense is something else, something evil. Play it at your own peril.

The delicious appeal of DTD is that it subverts the usual tower defence design. Instead of placing towers along a pre-defined route, you create a maze out of damage-dealing towers, through which countless hordes of 'creeps' pass. The just-one-more-go addiction arises from the search for the ultimate maze, against which no creep has a hope.

Adding to this clever setup is the visual style - a mix of hand drawn turrets, cute geometric creeps and an inspired background setting in the form of a photo of a interestingly cluttered desk. Factor in the leagues, enabling you to compare scores and mazes with your mates, and you've got one terribly terrific game.
