Top 7... Worst celebrity voiceovers

Witness the most horrific performances from famous folk in the history of gaming

Words: Tyler Nagata, GamesRadar US

The Game: Spy Hunter: Nowhere to Run (PS2)
The Star: The Rock, Dwayne Douglas Johnson as Alex Decker

The Rock can wrestle, The Rock can play lead roles in bad action movies, and The Rock can refer to himself in the third person like nobody’s business. But when it comes to his voiceover performance in Spy Hunter: Nowhere to Run, The Rock fails to let his inner superstar shine through.

It’s strange in that Dwayne Douglas Johnson isn’t his usual badass self when playing the game’s hero, Alex Decker. Instead of sounding like the sort of guy who can deliver a brutal beat down of epic proportions, Johnson sounds surprisingly polite.

In fact, Johnson’s amiable nature in Spy Hunter: Nowhere to Run makes him sound like an old friend: the kind of guy that we could just call out of the blue to come over and help us move. And we’d bet the bank that Johnson would cancel his weekend plans on a moment’s notice to help us. That’s how nice he sounds. It’s a good thing that developers included an animation of Johnson’s patented single raised eyebrow, or we’d easily forget that Alex Decker’s voice belongs to one of the buffest guys in the world of wrestling. The script’s typical tough guy lines can’t hide the overwhelming sense that Alex Decker is hands down the friendliest and most affable professional killer videogames has to offer.

First?

Yeah, while both the movie and game Spiderman 2 were awesome, Tobey McGuire definitely was not into doing the voice work for the game.

Awsome game nonetheless...

"We’re a little scared of Henry Rollins. The badass Black Flag leader could probably crush our heads with his bare hands and still have enough leftover aggression to shred up a solo that punches today’s poppy punk straight in the gut."

You must be really scared, so scared you cover your eyes everytime he appears. If you peeked between your fingers every once in a while, you might notice he doesn't play guitar.

I remember the good old days when the most you would hear Sparx say was Bzzz, bzzz, bzzzzzz. Also some of these were pretty terrible especially the Aerith one that was also creepy.

i don't think Rollins' voice over was that bad. Although it really is hard to do much with those lines...

and he does scare me, too.

Wow. Some of these audio samples send chills down my spine. Maybe you guys at GR should write an article on the Top 7 Best Voice Actors as well. My earliest memory of really good voice acting was the guy who played Marius from Diablo II. Probably not the best but definitely my fondest. I'd like to hear the gamers' choices as well.
