Battlefield 2142

The best griefing videos ever

Playing to win is one thing, but playing to annoy is a whole lot funnier

Words: David Houghton, GamesRadar UK

It's hard to know where to stand on the griefing issue. On the one hand, deliberately trying to ruin someone's game online immediately puts you well into the realm of the uncharitable wanker. Sharing a server with someone who's adamant that you're not going to have a good time is a miserable experience, especially if their insidious plan for self-amusement cuts into limited spare time.

On the other hand though, the reactions of some players to being griefed justify the act instantaneously. After all, it's easy enough to just change server or team to avoid an e-terrorist, and for all the whining, crying and insulting some victims unleash you'd think someone had roasted their dog over the burning corpses of their grandparents. And there are some pretty creative griefers out there, several of whome take the activity to levels dangerously bordering an art form. For sheer conceptualisation we can't help but give them our eternal respect, gift-wrapped with a bow.

It's those guys we now pay tribute to with this selection of videos culled from that there internet. Griefing might be a morally dubious activity, but at the end of the day, other people's pain is just funny. Where to stand on the issue? On the sidelines, pointing and laughing. Needless to say, NSFW language ahead.

Halo 3

Two guys hide for an entire match, convince the other team that a glitch has put them on separate maps, and then persuade them to spend the whole game killing themselves
