Silent Hill 4: The Room

Inside the mind of Silent Hill

We delve into the rich history of this twisted series

Words: GamesRadar US

There’s more to the Silent Hill series than most people realize. If you play through it and take everything you see at face value - assuming that the writhing flesh sacks are just writhing flesh sacks - then you’re missing out half the experience. Each game in the series revolves around psychological themes and everything your character witnesses, from bubble-headed nurses through ghostly apparitions to rusty wheelchairs, are all there for a specific reason, conjured up by the evil-infested town. This is because Silent Hill is what you bring to it; a place where the demons that torment a person’s soul are made manifest to either forgive or condemn them. We look at the games, their underlying themes and what the town means to the four main characters.

Beware: spoilers abound.
