Enemy Territory: Quake Wars

Enemy Territory

Co-owner of id software shares his thoughts on ETQW. Identity of QuakeCon ninja remains a mystery

Words: Tyler Nagata, GamesRadar US

GR: We understand that the game is currently in beta. Are you ready to give a rough release date yet?

Cloud:  No. I’m not ready to give a release date yet. We will be released this year. I would say that what we’re talking about in terms of beta, we’ve got a closed beta going on that’s giving us lots of good feedback. We’ve got some hardcore players, some clan players, some casual players, you know, some people from the industry coming in and giving us feedback. And that’s going well.

We’re hoping that in April - maybe mid-April which is not too far away (but it may slip depending on how we make our benchmarks with our performance) - we’ll release a broader beta. That is more for balance and kicking the tires on the bigger systems like registering your username and getting your stats back and whether those things are working. Plus people telling us, you know, “this weapon is not doing this,” or “I didn’t understand this,” or that type of stuff. So getting that kind of feedback and responding to that. But fundamentally, what the game’s about, what the character classes do, what the weapons are about, what the maps do, those are done. So we’re at that sort of polished stage.

GR: What advice do you have for those who’d like to join the beta before the game releases?

Cloud: Now we will be having a larger beta. We’ll be having some sign ups that will be going up on the community sites. Keep your eyes peeled on the community sites.
