2007's worst kept gaming secrets

We knew they were happening. The industry said we were wrong. But we weren't.

The announcement of the Ghostbusters game

This was the biggest chicken/egg mystery of the year. Back in January some videos appeared  on the internet of a supposed next gen game based on the Ghostbusters IP, coming from European dev Zootfly. And lo, Ghostbusters fanboys the world over exploded with warm, sticky, viscous excitement. Some of the GR staff were amongst them. It was a terrible mess. It rapidly became apparent though that Zootfly didn’t even have the license to make the game and the videos rapidly disappeared. Fanboys were ensaddened.

Fast forward to last month and suddenly an official Ghostbusters game is announced, but coming from Vivendi and with no involvement by the flies of Zoot. Was it always on the cards? Did Zootfly jump the proton gun and get called off? Was the massive positive reaction to their videos what inspired Vivendi to snag the rights and crack on with a busting game in the first place? We may never know for sure, but from January until the official announcement interest in and rumours of a GB game were certainly stronger than they ever had been before.

By the way, in case you were wondering, the egg came first. Dinosaurs came out of them well before ever chickens did. Obvious really.
