Direct2Drive has slashed $15 off the price of Paradox's strategy title Europa Universalis: Rome Gold, taking the game down to $5 as part of the digital distributor's Deal of the Week.
Europa Universalis: Rome Gold Edition is now available for download thrugh Steam. For just $22.49, you can download the Gold Edition at 10% discount. Gold Edition contains Europa Universalis Rome and its expansion pack Vae Victis.

Today Paradox Interactive released patch 1.2, accessible via the game's loading screen (update). The patch includes among other things: - A rebalanced military system that even more closely represents the roman battlefield - A deeper character interface, providing the player with more statistics and information on each character - Added events that add to the look and feel of the Rome environment and gameplay - Compatibility issues with Vista and Intel graphics cards have now been solved. Patch 1.2 also includes the Day 1 patch.

Each of you will be able to pick from one of 53 factions based around 10 different cultures like Roman, Celtic, Greek and Egyptian, and then battle for dominance of Europe on a big Risk-like map - which is now in fancy 3D. Europa Universalis: Rome is like Total War but without the commander battle-bit, and is based around the formation of the Roman Empire in the years 280 - 27 B.C.
