The campaign premise is complete buffalo balls.

It’s 1787, and here we are, chief of the lowly Iroquois, trying to figure out the best way to conquer half of the vast wilderness that is North America. ...

SEGA Europe announced today that Update 1.4 for Empire: Total War will be available in late September. The update includes an overhaul of the Artificial Intelligence, implemented both on the campaign map and in the real time battles. Improvements have also been made to sieges and navel battles.

"This update will please all Empire: Total War players as we've continuously listened to the feedback received via our forums", says Mike Simpson, Creative Director at The Creative Assembly and father of the Total War Series. "The framework has been laid down for all the exciting content that will come to the series in the future, and that's thanks to all the players of Empire: Total War"
Both Creative Assembly and the militaries it has tried to model mastered the pre-gunpowder art of war, and they used systems that were effective in controlling legions of swordsmen, archers, and mounted cavalry. While early gunpowder units operated alongside these troops as the feudal era drew to a close, they were rarely as effective as a unit of spearmen or bowmen, and they didn't need to play a very large role."

The Creative Assembly decided to improve and add onto the land units and battles for their recent 1.3 patch for Empire: Total War. However the development team behind the recent historical RTS game is already prepping for their 1.4 patch and this one will make some improvements in the game's naval battles.

In a post on the game's official message board, the team states they hope to "create greater diversity between different ship types along with improving the overall game play of the battles." What does this mean? Well, it means that for the upcoming 1.4 update, the high powered Ships of the Line will still be powerful but will have "low accuracy, slow turn speed and lower range compared to frigates and small ships." That means the patch will bring "a new dynamic and rock, paper, scissors element" to the game's naval battles. There's no word on when the patch will be released.
As for the fixes, most important of those seems to be one that says "various optimisations have been made to AI and path systems to reduce the campaign map turn times

Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide.

This week's charts, with data taken from March 12th, 2009, find Killzone 2 heading PlayStation 3 sales in North America, as Empire: Total War rules the PC charts in the U.S. and Europe.

Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows:

Sega has acknowledged a number of issues with its latest release, Empire: Total War, which has caused users to complain about the game and service.

The PC game is incompatible with some Nvidia drivers, and also struggles through a number of installation issues with Steam.

"After the game was finished, Nvidia released a new set of drivers which we were unable to test before release. Unfortunately this has caused some incompatibilities with the game. We recommend that you roll back to the previous drivers until this is resolved," advised the publisher.

If you have been wondering what the so-called "elite" units are going to be in the Special Forces version of Empire: Total War, wonder no more. Valve's Steam service has now revealed the six special units that are included in the $69.99 version of the upcoming historical RTS game from The Creative Assembly and Sega.

Oddly enough, Steam is also offering the elite units as a separate $20 download (although you can just get the Special Forces package which adds the units automatically). What does an extra Andrew Jackson get you in the game? No phasers or jet planes, unfortunately, but you will get four different types of infantry forces along with the Ottoman Organ Gun (does it shoot out ottomans or organs?) and the big one; the HMS Victory.

Earlier this week Big Download reported that Empire: Total War, the highly anticipated PC RTS game from The Creative Assembly and Sega, would have a slight delay in its previous February 2 release date. The new date is now for sometime in early March. However a new development in the game has been revealed and it's indirectly because of the game's delay.

On the official Total War message boards, Creative Assembly team member Mark O'Connell announced, "Significantly the additional time will also allow us to implement the underlying technology for a much desired feature (thanks to your feedback!); a multiplayer campaign mode. An opportunity to participate in the 1 versus 1 multiplayer campaign mode beta will be made available to all Empire Total War buyers post release." This will be the first time in the Total War series that a game will have any kind of multiplayer campaign mode. No other info on this new feature has been announced.

Creative Assembly has told Eurogamer that it would "love to do" Total War on consoles.

The developer has dabbled in console spin-offs such as Spartan: Total Warrior and Viking: Battle for Asgard in the past, but both stopped short of Total War levels of critical acclaim.

"It's something we've talked about a lot over the years, but nothing has really happened with it," said Kevin McDowell, lead artist, during a roundtable session. "We've definitely thought about it," added senior designer Jamie Ferguson.
