It’s much more like a worldwide network of networks, if you follow my logic. And as the internet ages, it’s becoming littered with servers, and those servers are becoming littered with old data. ...

So what would happen if amoral Balkan sociopath Niko Bellic was in everyone's favourite cute and cuddly cartoon racer? Would Mario and chums accept him into the line-up with grace and humility? Would Niko keep the lid on all his murderous rage when Yoshi was firing red shells up his tailpipe? Of course, not. This is what would happen if the worlds of Liberty City and the Mushroom Kingdom clashed...

And that got us thinking.

Original: More documents relevant to the ongoing courtroom drama between Duke Nukem Forever developer 3D Realms/Apogee Ltd. and publisher Take-Two have been released, shedding new light on the circumstances that lead to the termination of the game's dev team and the subsequent lawsuit over the game's incomplete state.

The team handling the long-in-development shooter was let go on May 6, with 3D Realms later explaining that this stemmed from funding issues after negotiations with Take-Two fell through and the publisher made an "unacceptable" last minute proposal "to acquire the Duke Nukem franchise and the 3DR development team."

The court documents reveal that those negotiations were related to an Xbox 360 port of the anticipated game, which Apogee subsidiary 3D Realms was crafting for the PC.

** Update **
3D Realms/Apogee Ltd. founder Scott Miller has chimed in with his thoughts:

"Do readers here realize that filed lawsuits are entirely one-sided statements, based on knee-deep BS and with more spin than a top?

3DR has been in nearly a dozen lawsuits (including against Warner and Fox). We're always innocent, and we always win. This one is no exception. Give it a year, then the truth will come out."

CVG: Get the popcorn; more dramatic details on Take-Two's lawsuit against Duke Nukem Forever developer 3D Realms have emerged, and plenty of new allegations made.

In case you missed it (you numpty), the Duke Nukem Forever team was let go last month, with 3D Realms blaming funding issues for the collapse of the 12-year-old project.

According to court documents unearthed today, part of Duke Nukem Forever's downward spiral involved publisher Take-Two's negotiations to develop an Xbox 360 version of the game.

The creators of Duke Nukem Forever fired back today at publisher Take-Two, detailing the costs of developing the never seen game and saying they haven't closed the studios.

The studio did confirm that the DNF team has been let go, but expressed a desire to "co-create" games based on the character in the future.

In their statement, 3D Realms accuses Take-Two of failing to offer the team a reasonable deal to continue developing the game and instead trying to attain the Duke Nukem Forever game from 3D Realms earlier this month in what amounted to a "fire sale."

Kotaku has requested comment on these allegations from Take-Two.

3D Realms chief George Broussard e-mailed the full statement to Kotaku earlier today.

The long and frustrating saga of Duke Nukem Forever came to a sad close last Wednesday, when developer 3D Realms closed its doors after some 12 years of working on the still-unfinished game. Ironically, Duke’s demise has shown us more of the game than we’ve ever seen before, as a ton of screens and a new gameplay video have since been leaked online by former 3D Realms employees. Seems like as good a time as any to look back at how far the game has come since its announcement in 1997. ...

Whilst technically 'in development' for well over a decade, it would appear from his words that it has only been in the past two or three years that any real progress been made. Of course, that's just a single opinion, but nevertheless it sheds some light on the DNF mystery."

Fudzilla: So with 3D Realms ending last Friday, much of the insider info regarding the project is starting to leak out. From what we hear, publisher Take-2 Interactive offered $30 million to George Broussard in an effort to acquire the IP rights to the Duke Nukem franchise, although it is unclear if this includes the work that was already completed on Duke Nukem Forever.

Our sources tell us that Broussard turned down the offer to sell the franchise, and instead spoke with several other publishers, including id Software, Epic, Electronic Arts and even Microsoft in an effort to secure additional funding to complete the project.

From what we hear, Duke Nukem Forever is not completed, but we also hear Broussard is continuing to shop for money; but this could prove to be problematic, as Take-2 Interactive does still hold the publishing rights to the game.

A very reliable source with inside knowledge of Duke Nukem Forever developer 3D Realms today told Shacknews that the company has been shut down.
The closure came about as a result of funding issues, our source explained, with the shut down said to affect both 3D Realms and the recently resurrected Apogee name.

Phone calls and e-mails to various 3D Realms veterans have thus far gone unanswered, with publishing partner Take-Two likewise unavailable for comment.

3D Realms was founded in 1987 by Scott Miller and George Broussard. The company had infamously been working on Duke Nukem Forever over the past 13 years.

On a ceiling of 850 tasks, 780 were made in 10 years, or 78 jobs per year. If you can count, you know there is still 71 tasks, or the current rate is 78 per year. The team should, if no problems were encountered, all completed in less than a year, the output would be set for the month of March-April 2010, with a margin of error of 10%. It only remains to count the days ...

Asked about the progress on the years-in-development Duke Nukem Forever, Miller stated Friday in an e-mail, "Development is swimming along nicely. Seriously nicely."

I'm sure many of you would have been interested in seeing a bit more about this, but to be honest a lot of us are probably thinking that we'll never actually get to see this game.

New information from the subscribers-only Dallas Business Journal article:

- 12 years of development went towards interactive environments that their game engine was not mature enough to handle, so the code was rewritten resulting in a series of complications which produced further setbacks.

- Scott Miller says they've finally achieved their goal of creating a "super-interactive" game environment.

- Apparently Bombshell (which was one of the three stand-alone game projects 3DR was working on) is now integrated into DNF. Miller isn't quoted on the confirmation, but the article says she's part of the Duke universe as Duke's action-female counterpart.

3D Realms has informed Shacknews that a release date and platforms for Duke Nukem Forever were not confirmed in its interview with the Dallas Business Journal. A more detailed response is expected later today.
Though 3D Realms has yet to announce a release date or platforms for Duke Nukem Forever, its denial of today's reports only indicate the company is not prepared to discuss those specifics at this time, not that the project has suffered a delay or setback.
He built these two using G.I. Joe Sigma Six figures, but the results look almost worthy of retail. Freeman and the Commando even come with their signature crowbar and grappling arm, respectively. They are now up for auction on eBay via the Gaming Today link below (news.filefront.com).

Jin Saotome's website features additional custom action figures from other video games: Solid Snake (from Metal Gear Solid), Ryu (from Ninja Gaiden), and Helghast Soldier (from Killzone 2). They are currently not for sale.

Either element can be unpleasant enough on its own, but put them both together and something far more horrible happens.

Games of movies, movies of games, they're both usually about as much fun as the death of a clown at a ten year-old's birthday party. But still we ...
Duke Nukem Forever developer 3D Realms has said it's aiming to release the FPS sequel on PC and console, although nothing's written in stone.

"We plan to have a multi-platform release if possible. We're not nailing down a date yet, but we're excited about the game's progress", 3DR's CEO Scott Miller has told MCV.

Duke Nukem Forever, sequel to Duke Nukem 3D, has famously been in development for around 10 years. Yesterday 3D Realms finally revealed a new teaser trailer, the first ...
Dec 19, 2007

Yes folks, incredible as it may seem 3D Realms has given Duke Nukem Forever its first public showing in about six years in a teaser trailer.

3DR's George Broussard has stressed that is a teaser trailer: "It's not a full blown trailer like the 2001 trailer (but something like that is coming). I tried to be clear about that in the message board post, so just bear in mind that it's a ...
It seems the faithful may be about to get their reward. After a decade of delays, the now mythical Duke Nukem Forever is going to get a new trailer today. 3D Realms' FPS sequel has almost become an urban myth of gaming over the years, postponed so long that many have doubted it even still exists, with even more seeing it as one of the best-loved jokes in gaming culture. No though, all that might be set to change.

3D Realms has announced that a new DNF teaser trailer is set to hit its site at ...

"Last Saturday we had our annual company Christmas party. It was a lot of fun as usual but it featured one special surprise. It turns out that several people had been secretly working late nights and into the wee hours of the morning preparing a special video for those at the party. They created a short teaser for Duke Nukem Forever.

After seeing the teaser we thought it was something we should share with all of you and while it's just a teaser, rest assured more is coming.

Tomorrow, Wednesday the 19th, around noon CST, we will release the first teaser trailer from Duke Nukem Forever. To tide you over until then, here is a screen shot taken from the teaser.

Thank you for being fans of the game and for your continued patience."

Scott Maclean, Duke Nukem Forever level designer at 3D Realms, updated his website with news about how things are going at his job:

"Six months since I updated. Not much has changed - everything is still going well. Things at work continue to make me jazzed to get up in the morning. Our team is just top-notch. I've been enjoying working on the levels I've been assigned, and everybody is responding well to the work I'm doing. In addition, the other designers continue to pump out work that just blows my mind. I'm really looking forward to the day when we can start showing off what we've been doing.

All in all, 2007 has shaped up to be a much more enjoyable year than 2006 was. :)"
3D Realms has dropped hints that it's to reveal a brand new game shortly.

"I can say that we have a big announcement coming in the next four weeks," the developer's newly appointed creative director Raphael Van Lierop told website Gamasutra.

Van Lierop, who has joined 3D Realms after producing the RTS Company of Heroes, confirmed the announcement isn't related to the long-awaited Duke Nukem Forever. Max Payne 3 then, maybe? Or Prey ...
In fact, the long-awaited PC title has been in the hopper for 10 years. While some thought the game might be axed, it appears Duke Nukem Forever is closer to becoming a reality than previously in its long history. In an interview with YouGamers, 3D Realms CEO Scott Miller confirmed that the title was still in development and that significant progress was being made.

What the hell happened to Duke Nukem Forever? 3D Realms hasn't released an internally produced game since Shadow Warrior, a shooter that ran on an advanced version of the Build engine. Someone screwed up along the way, and, thankfully, 3D Realms is finally starting to admit that publicly as Duke Nukem Forever finally becomes a reality.

First, we fully admit we're screwed up the development of DNF, and it's now an industry joke. I laugh (and cry) when I think about it, too. Our fault is that we set the bar too high, and we tried too hard to make the game to beat all games," studio CEO Scott Miller told YouGamers in an interview. "In the last 18 months we've taken a much more realistic look at the project, we've hired a truckload of experienced help, and I personally believe we are now on the right track&finally."
Wise-cracking, muscle-bound FPS star Duke Nukem is being used to help diagnose depression.

New Scientist has reported that the US National Institute of Mental Health has developed a videogame featuring scenes from Duke Nukem to test spatial memory.

Apparently, spatial memory is affected by the brain's hippocampus, with a shrunken hippocampus linked to depression.

Test cases were required to make their way to a number of locations within the "game" in an allotted amount of time. Measured ...
As many as 10 team members from the long, long-delayed Duke Nukem Forever have left developer 3D Realms over the past year, fuelling rumors that the game has finally been scrapped. But could it really mean that the game is actually nearing completion?

A development team disbanding over this period of time is a common enough occurrence in the games industry - but where this PC shooter's legendary delays are concerned, it's fuel to the fire that Duke Nukem Forever may never actually be ...
