Doom 3

What do you do when all Hell breaks loose? Shoot it with the biggest gun you can find

The only real problem is that the gameplay doesn't vary much from that formula, and after the first few hours you stop being shocked when a monster pops out behind you. Relief comes with the occasional boss battle against something really huge, and the game's action-dense 10- to 12-hour length means it's over before it really gets old.

Unfortunately there aren't any fancy multiplayer features offered, but all the basic deathmatch functions are included. If you just want to frag someone with the BFG, you'll be satisfied.

You'll love
  • Good-looking monsters
  • Incredibly immersive sound
  • Satisfying back-to-basics shooter
You'll hate
  • Repetitive gameplay
  • Some environments are too dark
  • Too many monsters in closets

It's pretty cool once you upgrade your weapons and get rid of the next to worthless pistol you start with. The starting pistol in the original Doom game did more damage than this thing. In Doom 3 you feel like you are shooting monsters with an actual starter pistol like the one they shoot off at track meets.

I got really tired of stumbling around in the dark in this game. The flashlight was nice but being able to attach it to your weapon would have been nicer. Isn't this game supposed to be in the future? We have gun mounted and helmet mounted flashlights for the military in the real world right now.

iD's newest version of Quake is actually much better.

Dissapointing.
I bought the id Super Pack off Steam a few days ago, which included all the Doom games.
I played the original Doom in all its low-polygon glory before turning to Doom3, and - to be honest - there are no differences in gameplay between the two.
The engine itself is mainly serviceable; the Source engine was released at the same time, and is infinitely cleaner and prettier.
All in all, I highly overrated and outdated game.
