Blizzard snaps up Diablo3.com

URL for fan site bought by the developer...

Diablo3.com, previously a URL for a Diablo fan site, has been acquired by Blizzard. Let the speculation commence...

The news has been broken by the fan site itself, which now says it's changed its domain name to Diablofans.com.

"Well, there's no point in beating around the bush any longer, so let's get right down to it. A few months ago we were contacted by Blizzard in regards to the Diablo3.com domain name.

"While they appreciate all the work that's been put into running this big Diablo fan community over the years, they still want the domain name," the previous owners of Diablo3.com have explained.

Obviously this sets alarm bells ringing that Blizzard is shortly to announce a sequel in its RPG series. However, the former Diablo3.com says this: "...while Blizzard is indeed acquiring the diablo3.com domain name, they told me that this shouldn't be considered an announcement for the Diablo 3 game we've been waiting for all these years."

Speculation on when, if and where Diablo 3 will be confirmed has been doing the rounds for longer than it would take to develop. Blizzard remains tight-lipped though.
