Eidos Montreal and CCP (Iceland based developers of Eve Online) have been in talks for a long time. Why didn't anyone hear about this until now?
Apparently, CCP approached Eidos expressing a desire to create an MMO set in Deus Ex universe. Deus Ex has a very rich world and the RPG elements are already there. What CCP wants to do is to realize this world in a massive way.

Edge writes: "Deus Ex 3 lead game designer Jean-Francois Dugas has been telling Edge about how the game will differentiate from its predecessors.
In an interview with Edge magazine, published tomorrow, Dugas says the original Deus Ex was "kind of slow". He added, "There weren't enough exciting, memorable moments. It was aimed more towards a simulation rather than a game experience.'"

Ripten reports: "Gametap has added Dues Ex to their list of free games, which now stands at 125 titles. If you happened to miss it the first time around in 2001, then this is the perfect opportunity for you to check it out now.
The download comes in at a very slim 151MB and is rated M (for Mature) so it's not one for the kids."

Deus Ex's Warren Spector reckons that Eidos will do a great job with the next Deus Ex game, but admits that it's not been easy letting go...
"Of course I'm going to play it," Spector said of Deus Ex 3. The director of Eidos France has revealed in a TV interview that the company is working on a third title in Warren Spector's critically-acclaimed Deus Ex universe.
According to Melchior the title is in the works at Eidos Montreal, which currently houses around 40 staffers. This Deus Ex revival is apparently the first step in Eidos Montreal's plan to become a major player in the industry.
