As promised Gas Powered Games and Stardock, the newest addition to the Demigod arena has been revealed. They call him Oculus is a general-type Demigod favoring ranged abilities and focusing on teamplay and minion use. Under the banner of the forces of light, Oculus will mainly be an offensive general using his lightning skills to do damage and boasts the ability to replenish teammates' mana. He can also heal his allies when he takes damage, though these other abilities are powerful in themselves Oculus' real strength lies in his synergy with the minions he summons. Each different type gives him certain boosts making him a threat to be reckoned with.

Stardock has released the demo for Demigod, its strategy game developed in collaboration with Gas Powered Games.

Says Stardock of the demo's content: "The demo features online Internet multiplayer games, the Cataract map and four playable Demigods (Regulus, Rook, Sedna and Lord Erebus.) All of the gameplay modes (Conquest, Dominate, Fortress and Slaughter) in Demigod are available to play in the demo."

Stardock has released a patch for its title Demigod, bringing the game to v1.01. The update brings improvements to on-line connectivity along with an improved AI system and other fixes and tweaks.

Last month GameRanger, the PC multiplayer online gaming service, was officially recommended as a solution for the game, Demigod. Now GameRanger asks users which multiplayer games should be supported next.

The launch of Stardock's multiplayer-centric game Demigod suffered major scaling and connectivity issues. GameRanger quickly responded with networking support for Demigod, giving Stardock some breathing room to work on the issues. Stardock president, Brad Wardell, said: "I have fallen in love with a new program called GameRanger."

GameRanger already provides online support for over 500 games, but there are many more that still suffer from the network problems that GameRanger solves. Survey questions aiming to address this will be presented to users when they next log in to the service.

Network connectivity has long been an issue with multiplayer games, especially strategy games, and has worsened over the years with more widespread use of routers and firewalls in the home. These are complex challenges that have been tackled with only limited success by game developers and other multiplayer middleware providers.

Chris Latour, BattleGoat Studios game designer, said: "GameRanger has provided us with far more connectivity than we originally had for Supreme Ruler 2010 and 2020."

GameRanger takes the pressure off game developers by eliminating the network connection problems and their associated tech support nightmares, so they can focus their energy on making great games.

The launch of Demigod has been marred by poor Internet multiplayer performance and issues. Developer Gas Powered Games and publisher Stardock have been working hard on the issues and the multiplayer network is certainly better than it was when the game was originally released. However many players still have had issues with playing online.

Early on Saturday, a new beta patch for the game was released. In his latest update on the Demigod forums, Stardock CEO Brad Wardell states, "The results have been very encouraging with a massive improvement in connectivity plus a fixes to a wide range of issues that users had reported." A non-beta patch for the game is scheduled for release on Monday and Wardell states, "So is Demigod safe to play online for normal people? In my opinion, the Monday release will probably put it there."

Stardock boss Brad Wardell reckons the Demigod connectivity issues will be cleared up this week.

"I feel confident that this next week is going to be the turning point for those people who have had connectivity difficulties - plus the whole range of stat stuff, pantheon stuff, etc. will come into line because, as I've said elsewhere, the connectivity thing was our number-one priority," writes Wardell.
