If the German creative community cant effectively participate in one of the most important cultural mediums of our future, will we be forced to relocate to other countries.", Crytek's CEO told pcgames.de
Well, you end up with a hybrid of excellence that would make any gamer's jaw drop. A clever mod specialist has taken the Killzone 2 2005 CG trailer and recreated it within Crysis. The end result is a thing of beauty and deserves to be recognized. Please note that this is still a work in progress.

Gamezine: 'Crytek's admission that they are moving to console development excites Crysis fans, but the game isn't necessarily on the way to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

We reported on comments from Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli that their acquisition of Free Radical would speed up their move to consoles:

"This step will certainly bring us forward a bit faster to achieve our goal to develop high quality games on consoles."

He further commented that they'd of course be utilising their CryENGINE 2:

"[Free Radical] have a proven track record in developing great games on consoles and PC. This combined with our own CryENGINE technology and a very experienced team is more than perfect for us."

A couple of websites took this to mean that Crysis, the CryENGINE 2's show piece, would be coming to the PlayStation 3.'

Is it time to start a Boycott? Or is EA working on a tool to help customers get around the rediculous DRM?
An email from EA would suggest the second.
"EA is expediting development of a system that will allow consumers to
de-authorize machines and move authorizations to new machines."
The rumors going about estimated that the title would only be available on three machines. The exact number is still unknown, but the rumor on this whole concept has been confirmed through the license agreement in the install wizard."

They were just too simple in Crysis. The ability to run into a house full of 30+ soldiers blazing guns was just a bit beyond realism for me. Even with the badass nanosuit you won't be able to absorb it all. Thanks to Rad15 we will no longer have to put up with the dumb A.I. The mod creator had been working on an Advanced A.I modification that would be more aggressive, and tactical than the current. After months of hard work he has released the modification, and it's now at version 1.1."

Take out that best buy gift card you have lying around, and use it because the game is getting better, and better each day. Even better Crysis Warhead is coming out, and I'm sure that you can put that good old best buy gift card to good use. That's unless your planing on getting Star Wars the same day. The modding community is been ever expanding. This morning we posted about a portal gun for the game that would allow you to teleport yourself. Now we have something more visual that may please the eyes. The mod community has been working on config files for the game for the past year. One member known as [HP] has done a fantastic job of polishing up the file to maximize your graphics. Yes, that's right you can achieve graphics beyond the highest setting currently available. The hefty requirements are that you have a Nvidia 8800 graphic card, as well as 2GB of ram. What makes this config file better than the current one installed on your computer?"

Not like Altier, he's not even silent. Especially when he executes leaders right in public. Crytek uses their in-game editor to creep their inside the roots of the PC base, to slowly take over your computers. In recent reports we have shown you a Star Wars: Force Mod, A huge medieval castle, an urban city with an all out free running movie, and now we bring you the Portal Gun (weapon mod). The gun is a straight off copy from valve's title Portal, and does what you expect it to do except a Crysis world. Shoot two portals, walk through one of them, and you will magically teleport to the other. This is a fun way of creeping out your hostiles, or even getting to those spots on a map that your elite nanosuit solider is considered to be too weak to get to. Video, and images after the jump!"

With an engine as sexy as the Cry Engine surely someone can put the system to good use to create a more urban setting. Jlim is the team leader of a custom singleplayer map known as City Assault. The map takes an urban approach with lots of buildings, and city like objects making this map one kickass project. No longer are you strained to trees, bushes, grass, and mountains. It's time to got all out in the streets of a large city. Don't get too excited yet as the map is still in development, but the team leader has revealed some great screenshots.

I need to further mention that nano suites were made for free running. The perfect combo of speed, armor, and jump puts this game in a genre it was never intended for. The second video after the jump shows off the creator of the map taking the nano suite out for some roof jumping. This will convince me to download this custom map once released. Take a look at the screenshots, and free running videos after the jump."

It's turning out to be a total conversion mod meaning new levels, new story, new weapons, and new everything. This means you get to be a nanosuite lightsaber jedi, and use the force in a Crysis world. mangobyebye has posted some of their current work, and I say that I'm very impressed, and will be looking forward to this mod once released.

Some argue that piracy isn't terribly detrimental to industries such as music, movies and gaming, because pirates are pirates, and they wouldn't have bought the product anyway.

But Germany-based Crysis developer Crytek doesn't completely agree with that theory.

Asked by Edge if Crysis pirates would have bought the game legally if pirated copies were unavailable, engine business manager Harald Seeley conceded, "Well, clearly not all would have."
I remember visiting a Crysis modification site, and taking a look at a modification that would drop a nuke and deplete everything in it's path for a good few miles. Today I came across another modification. This time it's a custom level built for Crysis, and boy am I beyond belief. If you think you've put hard work into a modification then maybe you should take a look at the following pictures. This medieval level is known as Niveus, and the artist who created this stunning level is Andrew "androkles" Hasko. The level is currently reported to run at 5fps on his machine. I'm right now speechless after taking a look at the pictures. Take a look at them after the jump.

As of right now, he says, the degree to which graphics can represent real-life is bottlenecked by a lack of new hardware. He says GPU and CPU technology are converging, evident in the new technologies in development at Nvidia and ATI, as well as what Intel's doing with Larrabee.

Until the growing trend of CPU and GPU convergence is more defined, developers will have to focus on increased graphical stylization as well as more advanced physics and AI programming...

Kotaku: The Video Games Live concert series is adding Crysis to their amazing arsenal of audio artistry, and they'll be debuting music from the title on Crytek's home turf. As with any giant industry event, Tiny Tommy Tallarico's traveling tour event will be hitting the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany next week, where Inon Zur's masterful score will be performed, accompanied by game footage and lighting effects to drive the sound home.
EA wants to sell you a (Crysis Warhead-Branded) PC (News)

At Electronic Arts' Comic-Con booth today, an EA rep mentioned that the company plans to market pre-built PCs in conjunction with the release of Crytek's upcoming PC-exclusive shooter Crysis Warhead. The idea seems to be to try and circumvent some of the intimidation that exists for gamers who are either new to high-end PC gaming, or have been out of the scene for some time, and reassure them that it is not prohibitively expensive to acquire a machine that can tame something like Crysis and its followup.

Apparently, the rigs will come in various configurations, which will correspond to Crysis Warhead's levels of graphical detail, with a likely price range being $600-$800 (I doubt EA will want to market a machine that meets only the game's minimum spec), and they will probably be named accordingly–the Crysis Warhead Performance PC, and so on.

...

As the rep also mentioned to me, EA's own internal analysis indicates the PC market is growing–publishers just have to learn how to capitalize on it.
Far Cry 2 dev takes swipe at competition - Island games just "cashing in" on Far Cry (News)

Don't let the crystal clear water and golden sands fool you: as far as the developer of Far Cry 2 is concerned, videogame tropical islands have become the imaginative equivalent of two weeks at Butlins.

With the sequel to Crytek's memorable PC shooter ditching the shores of paradise in favour of the treacherous beauty of Africa, creative director Clint Hocking believes anyone making a game on a tropical island now is just "cashing in" on the success of Far Cry. And that includes the series' original creator, whose second title, Crysis, is set on, yep, a tropical island.

"Going somewhere you knew was real but was really foreign and exotic, and you never really expected you would get to go in your real life - that's the magic of Far Cry," he told Eurogamer.

A group of gamers have gotten together and created a pledge petition that looks to combat Crysis Warhead's eventual piracy and show Crytek the support of its community

The petition started late Saturday and has already nearly reached 100 members.

The body of the petition follows:

With the development of Crysis 2 and the Crysis franchise's PC exclusivity resting on the success of Crysis Warhead, we must insure the future of the franchise and hardcore PC development that innovates and pushes gaming technology to its limits and gives us stunning technical achievements like Crysis, Half-life 2, Far Cry, Doom 3, etc.

The original Crysis sold respectively and has since passed 1.5 million copies internationally. However, this is disappointing when considering that it was the Windows Platform's most publicized and tracked game of 2007.

With the PC's huge install base, it is disappointing that its sales didn't remotely approach the levels of other platform exclusives like the Xbox 360's Halo 3. A quick search on the internet reveals piracy as the leading reason, with 15-20 copies pirated for every copy sold.

We pledge to combat piracy and to buy Crysis Warhead as soon as possible after the game is released, both to support Crytek and future developers who risk developing for our heavily pirated but expansive platform.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
Some people loved it, others found it pedestrian, but it's always good to see this sort of big-name first-person shooter stay true to its PC roots. It may be the last game Crytek releases that takes that path, as there will be no more patches for the game, and hints are starting to surface about something called Crysis: Warhead."

According to Intel we will soon be able to play Crysis on the bus to work!

The future of gaming on the move just got a whole lot more exciting.

Just imagine playing World of Warcraft, Crysis or Age of Conan on the move with no compromise in gameplay from playing the same games on a high-spec PC at home.

According to Intel this is no longer a dream a near-future possibility.

Piracy hit new highs with the release of the PC shooter Crysis, Frankfurt, Germany-based developer Crytek told Next-Gen on Wednesday.

November's Crysis sold 1 million copies worldwide as of February this year, but Crytek is nevertheless struck by how many illegitimate copies are circulating.

Crytek engine business manager Harald Seeley said that he could not reveal specific internal figures pertaining to piracy of Crysis, but he added, "I can say the level of piracy was the highest of any I've experienced on a project."

When asked how PC developers are going to solve to piracy issue, or if digital distribution is the answer, Seeley said he couldn't answer the question "due to various NDAs."

"...There are multiple possible solutions to the problem but I can't discuss any of them at this time, or even guess when or if these solutions will become public."

Strategy Informer writes: "Cevat Yerli, president of the German Studio Crytek, which is well known for developing Crysis. In the interview they discuss the success and failures of Crysis, but more importantly the state of the PC gaming industry.

Yerli was asked about the risk of going PC exclusive with a high-profile title, and replied with: 'It is certainly. We are suffering currently from the huge piracy that is encompassing Crysis. We seem to lead the charts in piracy by a large margin, a chart leading that is not desirable. I believe that's the core problem of PC Gaming, piracy. To the degree PC Gamers that pirate games inherently destroy the platform. Similar games on consoles sell factors of 4-5 more. It was a big lesson for us and I believe we wont have PC exclusives as we did with Crysis in future. We are going to support PC, but not exclusive anymore.'"

That's according to Amir Rahimi, senior producer on the Boom Blox project, who spoke to GamesIndustry.biz at a Nintendo media event in San Francisco.

"I was actually pretty surprised to find out how much of a gamer Steven Spielberg is," said Rahimi. "He - regularly, when we meet with him - makes references to games that a lot of us game developers haven't played or haven't played in years. But also recent games, like Crysis, he talks a lot about."

So what is Crysis Warhead? To begin with, it could be nothing. As the patent was filed by Crytek, and not Crysis publisher Electronic Arts, the German outfit may simply be protecting the name for some future potential use, similar to its patenting of Crysis Wars and World in Crysis in 2007, as noted by Trademork.

Bogus or not bogus?: Bogus that Crytek has announced Crysis Warhead as the title of any specific game. However, the trademarked title would fit for several projects, including a Crysis sequel or a console adaptation of the PC original.

"Crysis has been out for quite some time already and we constantly focus on getting the Multiplayer part more balanced and the servers less filled with cheaters. The last point is a topic we want to address today. The following is only the beginning of our initiative against Hacks, Cheats and Trainers. We know this is going to be tough, but we think it is rudimental and absolutely necessary."

And according to them, they managed to succeed. Their system consisted of a Core2Duo, 8800GT 512MB, NVIDIA nForce 650i Socket 775 MB, 2GB ram 240 pin DDR 2 800 and other necessary components such as a 250GB 7200 RPM. They conclude that their experiment shows Crysis provides unparalleled performance on high settings on an easily affordable machine.
You know what we're talking about, that 1920x1200 setting that was melting computers and stuff. ATI Crossfire setups saw their framerates nearly double in this range-an amazing feat, until you realize...even after such improvements, not one tested setup is breaking the 30fps playable threshold.
Crytek's boss has defended its hardware-hungry FPS Crysis, saying he believes the studio struck a good balance between performance and spec requirements.

"I think an important distinction that many gamers overlooked was that we designed 'medium' settings to look and play great," Cevat Yerli told IGN. "Our 'medium' setting should run great on 70 percent of gaming PCs."

Jan 2, 2008

In a fit of generosity Crysis developer Crytek has released five new multiplayer maps - for free - for its first-person shooter.

The maps actually began life as a community-driven project for Far Cry, but Crytek has taken them under its wing and turned them into official products for its new FPS.

"Both the two InstantAction and three PowerStruggle maps have been tested over several weeks and are optimized for competitive gameplay, but also provide a valid size for public gaming," ...

"Our first-ever Game of the Year awards was a pretty straight forward deal. I asked all of the writers to submit a list of three games for each category and the three that showed up most in each category made it as a finalist. Once we had the list of finalists I asked each writer to go through and order the finalists and then tallied the vote. The one with the most points was named Game of the Year, the runner-up was named Not Quite Game of the Year. The game with the most votes for Worst Game of the Year received that dubious honor."

Crytek Community Manager, Alexander Marschal writes:

"Of course we have prepared a little Christmas present for you as well. Within the past few months and weeks we haven't been working on patches, SDK and Linux Server only, but also our Level Designers have been very active. Thus we are happy to announce you the release of the official "Crysis Tournament Mappack".

Some of you might know this map pack series from FarCry already. We wanted to continue it for Crysis and have turned it into an official map pack that is being developed and approved by Crytek.

The package includes 5 brand new multiplayer maps for Crysis. All of them have been tested by Crytek's QA department and the professional Crysis teams [00] - Die Doppelnullen, GT - GlobalTeam.eSports and N! - Ninth Gaming."

The Simpsons Game for PlayStation 2 has finally managed to take out the top spot in the Australian game charts -- seven weeks after its initial release -- according to data trackers GfK Australia. The DS version of the game also made it into the top 10, taking out the seventh spot.

Super Mario Galaxy for the Nintendo Wii -- last week's number one -- fell down to number two during the week of December 10-December 16. Drawn to Life for the Nintendo DS has reappeared in the overall charts at number three after a brief hiatus. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the Xbox 360 climbed up from the previous week to number five, while Activision's other chart topper -- Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock -- is nowhere to be seen. Halo 3 for the 360 has reappeared at number nine, while Nintendo's Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree bundle ended the week at number 10.
