As I’m writing this column in the dog days of late August, I have yet to play this “continuation” of the most intense shooter of 2007. I’m just hoping that the Crytek guys ease up a wee bit on the Contra-style boss battles and Matrix-y aliens. But ...

Master from the crymod forums has created a performance config. What the hell is a config? If you are not satisfied with the current graphic settings, you can edit your/create your own configuration file to play Crysis Warhead with. This will allow you the user to be very picky in exactly how you want your game to look. Of course the average gamer will have no freaking clue on how to do this which is why community modders like Master cut us the slack, and complete it out of generosity."

This will sure make many teenagers(and others) unhappy in Australia as school holidays are set to begin on the original release date of 18th (or 19th).

Can you wait a week? Or will you import the game to make up a few days?

GameXtract writes "Box arts are a favorite timbit for players awaiting to receive a new title. While many people love to look at the front cover, I myself find more passion for the back cover. Why? Well for one it reveals a hell of a lot more than the front cover. The front cover reveals some fancy art, a rating, and the publisher as well as the developing studio. The back cover reveals tons of shit. System Requirements, in-game screenshots, text information, and many more minor features that will sure help reel the customer in. Today we got the back cover for Crysis Warhead, and you can get a full look at the image by clicking on it above. Has the back cover convinced you? The only reason I'm planing on grabbing the copy on day one is so that I can find out if my computer will crash like its having seizures, and see if their is any difference between the original title."
Get a look at the full image after the jump.

Speaking at Games Convention Developers Conference 2008 in Leipzig, Germany, Crytek CEO and President Cevat Yerli said the studio's next engine should be ready for sometime in 2012.

As of right now, he says, the degree to which graphics can represent real-life is bottlenecked by a lack of new hardware. He says GPU and CPU technology are converging, evident in the new technologies in development at Nvidia and ATI, as well as what Intel's doing with Larrabee.

EA wants to sell you a (Crysis Warhead-Branded) PC (News)

At Electronic Arts' Comic-Con booth today, an EA rep mentioned that the company plans to market pre-built PCs in conjunction with the release of Crytek's upcoming PC-exclusive shooter Crysis Warhead. The idea seems to be to try and circumvent some of the intimidation that exists for gamers who are either new to high-end PC gaming, or have been out of the scene for some time, and reassure them that it is not prohibitively expensive to acquire a machine that can tame something like Crysis and its followup.

Apparently, the rigs will come in various configurations, which will correspond to Crysis Warhead's levels of graphical detail, with a likely price range being $600-$800 (I doubt EA will want to market a machine that meets only the game's minimum spec), and they will probably be named accordingly–the Crysis Warhead Performance PC, and so on.

...

As the rep also mentioned to me, EA's own internal analysis indicates the PC market is growing–publishers just have to learn how to capitalize on it.

Well, Amazon.com and Gamestop.com have recently put up Warhead as costing a modest $30.
We also tried to keep in mind potential critical reception based on developer track record, previous franchise performance, and how the titles have been presented in the media thus far. Naturally we also picked the titles we are most excited to play at the show, but in short, these are the games to keep an eye on, because these are the games that ...

PC Gamers Start A Buy Crysis Warhead Pledge (Petition) (News)

A group of gamers have gotten together and created a pledge petition that looks to combat Crysis Warhead's eventual piracy and show Crytek the support of its community

The petition started late Saturday and has already nearly reached 100 members.

The body of the petition follows:

With the development of Crysis 2 and the Crysis franchise's PC exclusivity resting on the success of Crysis Warhead, we must insure the future of the franchise and hardcore PC development that innovates and pushes gaming technology to its limits and gives us stunning technical achievements like Crysis, Half-life 2, Far Cry, Doom 3, etc.

The original Crysis sold respectively and has since passed 1.5 million copies internationally. However, this is disappointing when considering that it was the Windows Platform's most publicized and tracked game of 2007.

With the PC's huge install base, it is disappointing that its sales didn't remotely approach the levels of other platform exclusives like the Xbox 360's Halo 3. A quick search on the internet reveals piracy as the leading reason, with 15-20 copies pirated for every copy sold.

We pledge to combat piracy and to buy Crysis Warhead as soon as possible after the game is released, both to support Crytek and future developers who risk developing for our heavily pirated but expansive platform.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
For developer Crytek, the answer isn’t to churn out a quickie sequel - even though Crysis’ cliff-hanger ending surely demands one. Now.

No - first, Crytek has to deal with the “perception” problem.
