Completely interactive, a Counter-Strike Source server has been attached to a mechanical sculpture. When someone dies in the game, it releases a stream of blood across the wall, a physical manifestation of nebulous kills in the words of artist Riley Harmon. According to Harmon, most of us kill a lot of people in digital worlds, and don't think much about the consequences of death. Harmon addresses that topic with What it is without the hand that wields it, a sculpture on display at the University of Oklahoma School of Art until April 4th. Players who would like to participate in the exhibit can do so by using the command connect 129.15.76.103:27015 in CS.

Buddhist monks. Counter-Strike. Not exactly two things you expect to have anything in common. But, while researching a story that has absolutely nothing to do with either, MTV Multiplayer discovered some monks in China that are big fans of Valve's shooter. Honestly, MTV Multiplayer didn't believe Gearbox Software's Randy Pitchford when he told them.

In addition, they'll have new footage of Left 4 Dead, a look at a new map for Team Fortress 2 (presumably it will be Goldrush), and an interview with Gabe Newell.

International Fascism: Microsoft Will Kill More Youth than Hitler. That is the title of a news posting over at the LaRouche Political Action Committee website, home of the supporters of American political nutcase Lyndon LaRouche. Taking their lead from the New York Post's sensationalist article COLLEGE KILLER CRAZY FOR VIOLENT VID GAME, the LaRouche Camp is apparently blaming Microsoft's Counterstrike killer video-game for the shooting. Never mind that Microsoft doesn't make Counter-Strike - that's probably all part of the conspiracy as well. The intended effect, to foster an environment of mass suicide terrorism in the U.S.A., is a by-product of the 'Revolution in Military Affairs' policy, organized by Felix Rohatyn and George P. Shultz; the same individuals, who not only helped to install the fascist Pinochet into the Chilean government, but are the prime backers of a fascist Bloomberg Presidency.

Online gaming website Tournament.com has closed down with immediate effect, ceasing all competitive activities, and putting players on notice to contact site administrators to claim any cash that may have been in account wallets. The site, which launched in May this year, had acquired the exclusive rights from Valve for the ongoing competitive use of Counter-Strike Source, which prompted cease and desist orders on other sites using the game. Philip Wride, managing director of Elysium Gaming, told GamesIndustry.biz that the failure of the business was a clear indication that further work on this kind of business model was needed.

According to the latest statistics released by online community and data aggregation tool Xfire, the number of hours spent playing online PC games by its community of over 8 million players fell further in October. We think that the most reasonable explanation is the release of major console titles - Halo 3 came out September 25th - which shows that a lot of Xfire users are console gamers too, says Xfire's senior director of marketing, Frederic Descamps. However with the release of the widely anticipated titles Hellgate: London (October 31) and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (November 5), we have seen a 10 per cent increase in daily gameplay for November as compared to October.

This little application allows Xfire to compile some interesting data about the games people are playing and ¿ while their data doesn't include every last gamer ¿ with over 8 million users in 700 different games, they have a broad sampling size.
