Kotaku: Besides an awfully generically-named videogame? Who knows! But there's a listing for it on Amazon, with a projected release date of March 2009, and they say it's from THQ. Taking all that into account - plus THQ and Relic's love of the expansion pack (see Dawn of War), we're just going to go ahead and start making plans for a second Call of Duty expansion. One that, we hope, includes the Russians. Oh, and if we're lucky, some North African combat as well.
Reported on 1up.com, the developer and THQ plan to tackle rampant PC piracy in the country by making the WWII game online-only. This means that Chinese players will be able to, essentially, level-up a character and climb through military rank via PvP and multiplayer co-op in new gameplay ...

Windows Vista vs Windows XP Performance: 7 Months Later (News)

It has been over seven months since Firing Squad last took a look at Windows Vista performance versus Windows XP. In that series of articles, Firing Squad found that both AMD and NVIDIA's Vista performance was lacking in comparison to Windows XP, although NVIDIA's showing in Vista was much worse: Vista performance was in some cases substantially slower than Windows XP, features were missing, and SLI was unsupported entirely. Meanwhile, AMD's biggest problem was the OpenGL portion of their Vista driver, OpenGL-based games like Quake 4 scaled poorly in performance in comparison to WinXP and Firing Squad encountered numerous visual artifacts. CrossFire support was also limited.

As you can imagine, in the span of the past seven months quite a bit has changed on the Vista driver front and Firing Squad received quite a few emails asking to revisit the topic.
Every year is a good year for the PC. Computer gamers needn't worry about console launches, system shortages or a dearth of quality titles. They customize their own systems, they upgrade whenever they want or need to, and they get to play practically every game in some form. Usually with the best possible graphics. Last-gen, current-gen, next-gen... the PC is always in the cutting-edge generation.

Although this technological freedom translates into a variety and depth of games limited only by ...
Friday 29 September 2006
There's a sense of prejudice against Company Of Heroes from the off. First off, it's an RTS, that most staid of genres. Second, it's an RTS set in the Second World War. "WW2 is a genre in and of itself," said one studio head recently. "A genre we tire of," replied the world. War weariness isn't limited to those who watch the TV news.

Stave off that shellshock. Company Of Heroes is a truly excellent game. It is tightly balanced, technologically impressive, rarely dull ...
You've never seen a strategy game with combat as intense as Company of Heroes. As your squads engage the enemy, you'll hear soldiers barking orders, shouting in victory and screaming in pain. Every thunderous detonation throws up a spectacular cloud of dirt and debris (and occasionally arms and legs); every building can be leveled by artillery fire or crushed under tank treads. Tank combat is a deadly game of angling for a shot at the enemy's weak armor, since shells will often bounce off the ...
