Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts

Playing with Nazis

Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts tells a tale of two brothers. The most compelling RTS plot yet?

But a unique approach to the story isn't the only thing up Relic's sleeve. The original Company of Heroes blew our minds away last year, scoring a rare 10 out of 10. So any improvements and additions in Opposing Fronts looks like extra icing on the cake.

Opposing Fronts will be a standalone expansion, meaning that you'll be able to play multiplayer online with the game's two new armies without purchasing the original. In addition to the new German Panzer Elite, players will also receive access to the British 2nd Army.

Nicknamed the Bulldogs of the Battlefield, the British 2nd Army will be characterized by their skill at digging in and defending territory and strategic points with emplacements like slit trenches, anti tank guns, and mortar pits. On the flipside, the Panzer Elite will be more focused on mechanized mobile attacks. Troops can fire from transport units, giving teeth to otherwise vulnerable convoys.

Weather effects have also been added to the already impressive looking game. Raging storms will introduce mud that can muck up your movement speed, while dark weather will make it harder to see your enemies and easier to sneak around them.

For more gory details on the new content available in Opposing Fronts, check out our previews. But despite the extra eye candy and strategic elements offered by the title's new weather system and armies, it's the story in the German campaign that has us anxious for Company of Heroes: Opposing Front's November release.
