It's time to reshape cold war history as Atari announces the upcoming launch of Codename Panzers: Cold War, the latest PC real-time strategy title in the acclaimed Codename Panzers series from developers StormRegion and InnoGlow. The tense period in history when a word out of place could lead to all-out war provides a chilling backdrop for the real-time strategic action of Codename Panzers: Cold War, scheduled for release worldwide in February 24th 2009 for Windows PC. Atari also released 3 new screenshots from the game.

Stormregion, the developer of Codename: Panzers ¿ Cold War, is particularily proud of the new game engine they've created for the game. So much so that the publisher of the upcoming RTS game, 10tacle Studios, has sent out a press release explaining a few things - the engine is named the Gepard3 Engine and the weather effects allow for the devs to add a number of fancy, gameplay altering effects to the game.
Microsoft may be trumpeting the dawn of DirectX 10 and its incredible impact on the PC gaming experience, but not every developer is ready to join the jamboree and adopt the new version of the API just yet.
In fact, according to Codename Panzers developer Stormregion, there's actually still plenty to explore in DirectX 9.
"We think that there are still several untapped opportunities in the previous versions of API so we are focusing on DirectX9 currently," Stormregion's lead designer
