This new COD's multiplayer was never in danger of being anything less than excellent, being as it is essentially an extension of COD4's already perfect online play. All we really needed was more of the same, reskinned for World War II with a few extra bells and whistles, and that's pretty much what we've got.

That said, we do have slight reservations about a couple of those extras Treyarch has - understandably - added to make the experience its own. The vehicles, while fun, felt a little superfluous to us, not really adding much to the game despite their imposing presence. The problem is, when you're building on a game as tightly balanced as COD4's multiplayer, there's very little that can be changed while maintaining cohesion, As a result, the vehicles just didn't feel like they gelled with the rest of the game.

Similarly, we weren't too sure about the new replacement for the gunship. This time around, racking up enough kills in a row gives the option of unleashing a pack of dogs on the opposing team. It's very cool indeed to be on the dispensing end of, but it just feels a little unbalanced when you're the victim. Wheras the chopper could be avoided by going indoors, or even used as a distracting advantage to make more kills of your own, the dogs home in on anywhere you might be, and as far as we could tell bring about an instant kill every time.

You can shoot them down if they attack from the front, but if they come from any other direction, you are, to put it plainly, utterly screwed. They're a cool idea; it's just a shame that they feel a little too much like a delayed-action smart bomb in practice. We found the flamethrower a little overpowered too, particularly indoors where it will demolish everyone in a room in a mere second or two.

Negatives out of the way though, COD: WaW's multiplayer remains an excellent slice of military shooting. The core gameplay remains as great as it's ever been, the weapons feel meaty despite their vintage, even after COD4's brutal tools of perforation, and the levels we played, while not as tightly focused as Infinity Ward's, still provide an excellent blend of skirmish areas, cover, contestable bottlenecks and indoor and outdoor fighting. All in all, very pleasing stuff, and while we're not sure that WaW is going to be a COD4 killer online, we can see ourselves having some very enjoyable times with it nonetheless.

Ehhhhh, I don't know. I might stay away from this CoD, just because CoD4 got really old and repetative.

Tasty_Pasta you can't possibly be thinking about the online. Iv'e played it for much longer than any other game and I don't even have the mappack. But I dunno about CoD5.

Hmmm er im not sure about this game loved CoD4 to death but like Tasty_Pasta said it got boring after a while and yes we get the point it's not made by infinity wars everybody panic! we understand infinity ward did a good job who knows maybe Treyarch have learned their lesson. But there are to many pros and cons to be sure wat this game is going to be like.

It looks really cool, but did you have to spoil the part when you kill the German soldier? It'd be nice to discover these things independently.


Also, does the multiplayer have any equivalent of the M16? You know, a one-shot, ridiculous, across the map sort of gun?

Yeah, i have the beta, the Thompson is WAY overpowered, and is the games version of the M16.

Maybe they should make it so that the dogs have to sniff you out... Like if you hide in a closet they won't find you?

Three months ago I hated Call of Duty for switching back to World War II. Now, I'm actually looking forward to this game. What a turnaround. Thanks Treyarch.

Have the beta.

Half decent at the most. Way too much imbalances. The Thompson is fine actually, it's just that everything else is extremely weak. The shotgun takes two shots point-blank. The bolt-action rifles take two shots to kill some for god's sakes, that is just a seriously stupid.

It's a beta though, so I hope it get's better.

i agree with pasta man cod 4 was good but i dont get why people cant seem to get over it it got well repetitive and i got bored coz it was all people played this one just seems like their gonna try replecate cod 4 coz everybody fought ti was so greeeeeat

I can honestly say that i liked COD3 and was dissapointed when i got into the beta and found it was just COD 4 during WW2.
The crazy every man for himself that was COD3 was awesome. And i diddn't find the vehicles or the dogs unbalencing because of the effort required to secure these two things.
I mean, the two rockets (or grenades) to kill a tank isn't that bad. and the dogs only take one hit before they die. and they're too
stupid to actively seek you out. they just run in your general direction and kill you in two attacks. The only really overpowered thing was the artillery strikes which, are acurate in thier effect, cover the whole map.

Well, Wubbles, I've been playing the BETA and so far, most of the rifles are one shots from across the level with little to no recoil...and sub-machine guns do more damage than certain machine guns. Hopefully this will all be fixed before the real game ships...but if not, I might not pick this one up.
