Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Also known as: CoD 4

Information is valuable, but like money, it can be counterfeited - a countdown site at www.findmakarov.com got a bunch of press last week when it was initially presumed to be an official Activision teaser for Modern Warfare 3... nope! But check out the neat fan-made trailer inside...

So many puns. Oh God, there are so many puns to make. Be strong, Dave. Think not of "Brown Ops" or "Cack Ops", and certainly do not construct any sentence that makes use of the word "streak". This story is a grim cavalcade of dubious comedy already.

Basically, adult diapers have been found on Amazon.com. And they've been found to be frequently bought with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Because it seems some gamers just refuse to take a break for anything. Even basic human dignity. Don't tell the BBC.

We brought you first details on the new Call of Duty game last week (catch up with that here). Since then there's been a lot of talk about how the game's return to WWII after Modern Warfare is a bad move. Senior producer Noah Heller says Call of Duty: World at War has to redefine the genre and be the best shooter possible or people won't trust the brand going forward.

Call of Duty 4 has just reached an astounding 10 million copies sold, Infinity Ward studio head Vince Zampella has revealed.

The Activision-published FPS is one of less than ten games to reach the monolith sales milestone since 2000 (GTA takes up three of the spots). And at $60 a pop, the gents behind the shooter have made a lot of cash.

What's more, the downloadable Variety Map Pack has been served to over 1.5 million customers

Patch 1.6 has been released for the PC version of Call of Duty 4, and the Variety Map Pack is finally available to mouse and keyboard gamers - for free!

The Pack includes four maps; Creek, Chinatown, Killhouse and Broadcast. The last one, in case you hadn't guessed, is based on the wicked single-player level in the television studio.

Speaking in trade mag MCV, marketing director David Tyler said, "We're pleased to have Call of Duty 4 leading the way in the FPS genre, with recent launches such as Army of Two and Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 failing to inspire."

Development has finished on the Variety Map pack for the PS3 version of Call of Duty 4 and it's in certification with Sony as we speak.

As Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling reveals: "The Variety Map Pack DLC and patch required to add the maps to the game went to Certification at Sony last night."

The four new maps in the pack arrived on Xbox Live Marketplace last Friday, while PS3 owners still await a release date announcement. But

Connection problems plagued users trying to download the Call of Duty 4 Variety Map Pack this weekend, as Xbox Live struggled to meet demand for the popular FPS's first download content.

During the release users experience various connection errors on Xbox Live, while redeeming Microsoft Points became impossible for others. Thankfully, according to Infinity Ward community man Robert Bowling, it's now safe to back onto Xbox

The much anticipated Call of Duty 4 Variety Map Pack has been delayed by one week to April 10.The shooter's first piece of downloadable content was originally rumored to release this Thursday, April 3, though publisher Activision never officially confirmed that date. The last we heard, it was going through Microsoft's sometimes lengthy submission process - so maybe that's the problem. Although we played them last Friday and they were all well
