After big releases like Uncharted 2, Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed 2 Take 2 Marin's Bioshock 2 could very well be the first really big thing in 2010. The FPS which is going to revisit the atmospheric underwater world of "Rapture" makes the top of a list containing of 25 most anticapted games chosen by several thousand readers. Final Fantasy XIII came in second, followed by Sony's God of War 3. Other follow-ups as listed in the source are games like Mafia 2, Max Payne 3 or Gran Turismo 5.

9lives.be: "M.E. Chung, Multiplayer Designer at 2K Marin, revealed some new multiplayer modes for BioShock 2.

The first mode is Turf War. It's a faction-based mode where you have to gain control of Rapture's territories to win the game. You gain control by finding specific points within the map that control the territories, your proximity to the control point will fill up a meter and gain control of the point for your team when its full. The faction that has held onto the spaces the longest will prevail.

The second one is called ADAM Grab. It's a mode where your possession of the Little Sister gives you ADAM, and the person who holds onto her the longest will win the game. It was a challenge coming up with rules that fit because of the way the cities were designed. We wanted to find something that worked with the strengths of Rapture's architecture, so that's where ADAM Grab comes in – the point is to get the Little Sister and to get "lost" in the city.

Finally, Last Splicer Standing is a variant on the already announced Civil War mode. There's no respawning in this mode like the other ones; it's a round-based mode where each round's winner is determined when everyone on the other team is down. Taking respawn out and putting all the value of survivability on one life changed the pace of the game. We liked that it was a different experience, so we kept it in as a variant for people who really enjoy the slower, more deliberate-action style of gameplay."

Sophia Lamb is the ideological opposite of her predecessor Andrew Ryan, and the underwater city is quite a different place to be because of it. Speaking about her creation, the game's creative director, Jordan Thomas told us: "Well, it started by asking, 'What would be compellingly different? What school of thought would inform Rapture in a way that would add new dimensionality and really change the original intent of the city?'"

Take-Two's current fiscal year holds few major game releases, but analysts said investors should look further into the future, when games like BioShock 2, Max Payne 3, and a new Grand Theft Auto hit shelves.

"Despite the execution missteps, we think that Take-Two shares should be valued on next year's earnings, and believe that solid profits next year and a GTA announcement will trigger outsized share appreciation," wrote Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter in a research note this week. He expects Take-Two to release Max Payne 3, Mafia 2, Red Dead Redemption, BioShock 2, and The Agent in fiscal 2010, which begins in November 2009.

The developer is now saying that despite the push back, Bioshock 2 is still looking at an early 2010 release date. The reports yesterday had the game releasing after March.

Numerous bottles had been placed in ten selected beaches around the world on August 8th, and each contained a glimpse into the life of Rapture - the underwater Utopia designed by Andrew Ryan. What do we learn about life in Rapture from these messages from the past?

At the start of the week, Gamerz Ink uncovered the story of various gaming websites around the world receiving a mysterious letter forged by one of the residents of Rapture looking for his missing daughter, with attached coordinates detailing the locations of beaches around the world. Mark Meltzer described these locations would be the recipients of some information washing up with the tide, and with Bondi Beach being the first location on the world map to receive the Bioshock 2 related information, at the crack of dawn this morning Gamerz Ink sent down some trusty staff members to investigate this strange event.

Most gamers know by now that the much anticipated Bioshock 2 has been pushed back into 2010, not hitting it's expected release date of October 2009. Maybe someone forgot to fill in the marketing team behind Bioshock 2, because Kotaku received a strange letter in the mail today, detailing the locations of beaches around the world that will contain something Bioshock related this Saturday, August 8th.

Being the first on the timeline, Australia will be the first to receive the Bioshock 2 related marketing. So, whoever is heading down to Bondi Beach this Saturday morning at 6:41am for some Bioshock goodness, the GI team will see you there!

Take-Two Interactive, a large scale video game publisher, has officially delayed Bioshock into 2010. In a stock investors conference call, the publisher wholeheartedly admits that the delay is "a disappointment", but insists the move was a "right decision for the product". Strauss Zelnick, Chairman of Take-Two, stated that the delay will allow them to create "a more compelling consumer experience and a better performing product in the marketplace".

"In the past we've been working closely with 2K Australia for our tech needs and Digital Extremes for our robust multiplayer experience. Today I'm proud to say that we've added another important developer to the mix," 2K Marin producer, Alyssa Finely said on Arkane's website.

"Under the direction and leadership of 2K Marin, Arkane is assisting in the creation of levels that embody the aesthetic and gameplay ideals that make BioShock such a unique and exciting experience."

Things can get, er, hectic in BioShock 2. You're a prototype Big Daddy, upsetting the new Rapture equilibrium established after the first game. The baddies -- the Splicers -- aren't happy to see you again and don't have a problem trying to kill you. Needless to say, you'll be smashing quite a few of those poor (and vicious souls) as you progress through the game. But it's not all heavy action and Plasmid slinging. 2K Marin have created small escapes in the form of ocean floor exploration.

That's right -- you can leave Rapture and not worry. No guns, no fighting. It's a place where the developers hope you'll stop and listen to logs, as well as soak in the atmosphere. Destructoid recently got a chance to hear what the developers had to say about ocean exploration at a roundtable discussion that took place after our demo of the game.
If you're a Rapture purist, however, it's safe to turn that frown upside down -- tone, style, and yes, even music is very much in the spirit of the source material.

The lightbulb-screwing adage is ridiculously old, but it's too hard to resist the temptation to give it a BioShock twist when the opportunity presents itself. Let's try it:

How many continents does it take to create a BioShock 2? The answer is three. Wow.

"We have a lot of help from a lot of different people," BioShock 2 developer Hogarth de la Plante said during the roundtable discussion that took place after our recent demo of the game. "We got people in our Australian office helping -- even on the production level with building levels and stuff right now. As far as the work load split between platforms -- I mean, yeah, -- I think we're on three continents right now with people working on the game in one way or another."

"The latest trailer released today of Bioshock 2: Sea Of Dreams definitely shows you playing the role of Big Daddy and getting instructions from a female control person...

The various papers and even letters from young girls that have escaped or those following the "large figures" to the sea report the observation of a red glow in the ocean. All the girls are 7yrs old, all have dark short hair, are of light build and are very similar in looks and body type.

Is it possible that Geoff is referring to new Bioshock 2 coverage for GTTV? It might be as he does seem to be putting emphasis on the word and harvesting little sisters was a large gameplay mechanic in the original Bioshock..."
After confirming that the Sea of Dreams subtitle had been dropped from BioShock 2 and then confirming that it hadn't been dropped, it seems like 2K is taking too many of its own plasmids. Following a serious back and forth regarding the game's name at GDC, 2K eventually settled on "no comment." The company says that there should be an official answer by the end of the week.

Kind-hearted folk that Joystiq is, they've decided to help out 2K marketing by putting the question to a key demographic: Joystiq readers!

The sequel takes place 10 years after the original (Not a prequel like previously rumored) You play the very first Big Daddy prototype and still patrol Rapture. The city did not crumble after all. It reached an equilibrium thanks to the Big Sister. A once Little Sister that escaped with Dr. Tenenbaum in the first Bioshock. Big Sister has returned to Rapture for unknown reasons beside maintaining order. She has captured little girls from all around the world and transformed them into Little Sister. Your role in Bioshock 2 is to either Harvest or Adopt these little sisters and solve the Big Sister mystery. You may be an all powerful Big Daddy, but Big Sister does not mess around. She will protect her city, at all costs.
The game wont just be a solo adventure game either. There will be multiplayer of some sort, without compromise to the single player.

Kotaku writes:99% of games on the market today have multiplayer. Bioshock, however, did not. It was geared towards a singleplayer experience. But the sequel? It'll have multiplayer.

At least, it will according to the latest issue of Game Informer. Problem is, the mag's big story on the BioShock sequel only says it will feature multiplayer. It doesn't say what kind of multiplayer. So while earlier rumours suggested co-op play would make an entrance in the series, in the absence of any real details you can speculate there'll be plasmid-fuelled deathmatches and nobody can say you're wrong.

Yet.
As publishers move what were high-profile holiday releases into earlier months in the year, the company may be the among the first to put its eggs in the third quarter, as it likely wants to end the month of October with the coffers filled.

"We had Big Daddys and Little Sisters in BioShock 1. Now we have confirmed Big Sisters, so surely it makes sense that we also have… Little Daddys?

The image to the left is called LittleOne.jpg and can be found (if you look hard enough) on the new BioShock 2 teaser site, SomethingInTheSea.com. If you trace a line with your mouse from the X marked on southern Ireland all the way to New York, approximately half way across a small dot appears (very hard to see unless zoomed). Click on it then trace from here south (towards South America) until another dot appears. This is the weird bit. Apparently you have to have a microphone plugged in and make the noise of a Little Sister. If you do it right you then get a link to this picture."

The Bioshock 2: Sea of Dreams teaser website is now open. The website features a world map with three documents pinned to Northern Europe - Ireland is highlighted below.

The first is a photograph of a nautical Big Daddy. The second is more interesting, since it is a newspaper cutting about a young girl disappearing after a mysterious attack.
A recent job listing on Gamasutra announces the developer's need for a UI (User Interface) Programmer for Bioshock 2. A standard job, for sure. However, not only has 2K Games requested a large number of qualifications for such a typical profession but one line struck us as interesting."
And the magazine is reporting Bioshock will be out for the Mac in the first half of 2009. At online retailer Feral Interactive's booth, exhibitors wore shirts with Bioshock's Big Daddy on the back. Writer Chris Holt checked with Feral reps, who confirmed for him that the game's coming.

Probably the most noticeable change that the "New Daddy" has is the helmet, it only has three sight holes, and they are all forward facing. Whereas the old Big Daddy's helmet has multiple sight holes and they give multiple angles of sight.
Barely edging out the impressive PS3, the swanky new dash and the amazing exclusives like Gears of War 2 and Fable 2 put Microsoft over the top. The Wii's casual focus didn't garner it any votes this year.

Take Two has just announced it's software line up for the rest of the 2009 fiscal year, ending October 31, 2009. Among the titles listed lies Bioshock 2, sequel to the 2007 blockbuster hit. An interesting side note, however, is that the platform its listed for is to be announced, making it the only game Take Two has listed without a confirmed platform. Is it possible that Bioshock 2 could once again be a timed exclusive for either platform?

While the publisher's currently focused on delivering its first DLC (for Grand Theft Auto IV and the PS3 version of BioShock), it has other plans in store to boost its bank account, which could see its premium titles take on a subscription-based model.

"The holy grail is taking a business, already a very large and successful business that's focused on packaged goods that you sell once and then are occasionally resold by others with new benefit to us, and turning that into a subscription business or a semi subscription business where we have an ongoing relationship with consumers, giving them products that they want," Zelnick said at last week's BMO Capital Markets conference (whoops, missed it at the time)."
While the release of this trailer will surely brings lots of speculation to the table about what the new title will have in store for gamers, I found my attention caught towards the song used in the trailer. The melodic music fits perfectly with the world of Rapture, and emphasizes the city in such a positive way. For those that felt attached to the music just like myself will be able to hear the full song through the video below. Enjoy!"

The only problem with the unveiling of consoles is that 2K wasn't exactly clear. The representative's line was that "BioShock 2 is destined for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC platforms."

I'm all about destiny. The other day when I was walking to my car, I found a gum wrapper on the ground. With a sweaty brow and nerve-wracked hands, I picked it up and instantly realized that I was the chosen one. Why a gum wrapper and what I'm chosen for is still unknown, but it's totally destiny, man.

Are any of you surprised that this statement echoes temporary exclusivity? Perhaps 2K is just being cautious at this stage, but it just feels like PS3 guys may finish last again. What do you think?"
The sequel to BioShock was finally confirmed this morning through - of all things - a leaked YouTube trailer. Despite the shoddy delivery system, however, the content of the tease is surprisingly satisfying and unbelievably thought-provoking. We’ve already watched it a dozen times, and with each viewing, we leave with more answers, more questions and a hell of a lot more anticipation.
This shaky-cam YouTube video shows what appears to be a teaser for BioShock 2 found in the Extras menu on the retail PS3 version of BioShock. The teaser consists of one shot, pulling back from a scraggly Big Daddy doll to reveal a Little Sister standing on a beach looking at the sunrise (it’s the Atlantic Coast, and since America is the Center of the World we assume she’s looking East.) ...
