EA has released a new update for BattleForge adding the new PvE map Empire along with other improvements, balance tweaks and bug fixes. The patch also totes improved performance, specifically when playing on large maps with many units.

Battleforge works faster with DX 11 (News)

Battleforge can now be called the first DirectX 11 game, as thanks to the patch that guys from Phenomic has released and the DirectX-SDK dating from August, this game runs faster on DirectX 11.

According to the graph over at Pclab.pl the DirectX 11 patch was enough for the HD 5870 to be faster than Radeon HD 4870 X2 at 1920x1200 with 4xAA and 16xAF. The game doesn't bring any eye-candy and you can't exactly call it a full DirectX 11 game, but at least the patch brings some gain for the HD 5800 series, as it does indeed give few extra frames per second.

This week the game's official web site announced plans for a major new card expansion called the Renegade Edition. The new expansion will add 60 new cards to the game that will be used to create new units and structures. In addition, "Dual orb cards and special affinities" will be added to the mix that " will deepen and enrich the strategical possibilities of the decks and the combat itself." The expansion is due to be released sometime in August.

Fudzilla: After the H.A.W.X. article, we had to dig a bit deeper to find that H.A.W.X is just one of three games that ATI wants to market as a DirectX 10.1 title. All three games should benefit from DirectX 10.1 and two out of three are already a part of Top 20 UK PC games chart.

As we already wrote, you can get up to a 15 percent performance boost with DirectX 10.1 in H.A.W.X. and according to the video at Youtube, you can get up to 30 percent in some titles, for example Stormrise and Battleforge. This video is done by ATI so take that 30 percent claim with a grain of salt, as they claim higher gains in H.A.W.X than those which we got during our testing. In any case, even if the gain is not 30, but rather 15 percent, it's still a great result and a great win for ATI.
